    The County of San Bernardino Wants You to Join Our Team!

    San Bernardino County Land Use Services is seeking skilled and driven Land Development Engineers II/III* to work on a variety of exciting projects.

    Key responsibilities may include:
    • Infrastructure Plans Review: Review street, storm drain, grading and erosion control plans to ensure they meet county and state requirements.
    • Technical Report Evaluation: Review critical technical reports, including Water Quality Management Plans (WQMP) and drainage studies including hydrology and hydraulic review, ensuring adherence to environmental and safety standards.
    • Building Plan Review: Evaluate building construction plans for compliance with California Building Codes and other relevant Federal and State regulations.
    • Project Coordination: Collaborate with staff across multiple divisions within the department, as well as external agencies, to coordinate land development and building projects efficiently.
    • Regulatory Compliance: Work closely with other governmental agencies to ensure projects comply with County standards, the Planning Commission’s requirements, the State Map Act, Subdivision Ordinance, and other relevant State regulations.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT


    Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, candidate must undergo a background check, which includes fingerprinting and medical exam.

    Travel:
    Travel throughout the County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.

    Physical: This position includes the following demands: frequent sitting; occasional walking, standing, bending, and squatting; fine manipulation in both hands; continuously reach or work below the shoulder level; must frequently demonstrate near vision and occasionally demonstrate far vision; occasionally lift or carry ten (10) pounds or less; occasionally work near equipment and machinery on rough, uneven, rocky, or slippery surfaces; occasionally exposed to dust, gas, toxic materials, noise, and extremes in temperature and/or humidity; occasionally use protective equipment or clothing.

    Minimum Requirements

    Engineer II - Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
    Certification Candidates must possess Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification issued by the California Board of Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists OR Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) certification issued by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). Education* Forty-Five semester (68 quarter) units in civil engineering or a closely related field. Candidates must provide a list of completed coursework.
    Experience Two years of professional experience working in land use, civil, environmental, or a closely related field of engineering .
    Substitution for Experience Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field OR 4 years of experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician in San Bernardino County may substitute for one year of the required engineer experience.

    Engineer III - Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
    License Must hold current status as a registered Professional Civil Engineer with the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs.
    Education Forty-Five semester (68 quarter) units in civil engineering or a closely related field. Candidates must provide a list of completed coursework.
    Experience Three years of professional experience working in land use, civil, environmental, or a closely related field of engineering .
    Substitution for Experience Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field OR 4 years of experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician in San Bernardino County may substitute for one year of the required engineer experience.

    Note: Candidates must provide a list of transcripts unless the candidates possess a Bachelor's degree in a qualifying area. All documents should be uploaded upon completion of the application. Qualifying degrees or coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Degree Equivalency Evaluation: Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied with an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.

    Desired Qualifications

    A Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited school in land use, civil, environmental, or a closely related field of engineering is highly desirable.
