    The Position

    Vocational Rehabilitation Supervisors and Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors manage a caseload budget; determine eligibility or ineligibility; assess vocational rehabilitation needs; develop individualized plans for employment (IPE); coordinate the delivery of services; provide counseling and advocacy services; provide appropriate job placement; and determine employment outcome in order to minimize disabling conditions and reduce dependency for individuals whose mental or physical disability presents a barrier to employment and/or self-sufficiency.

    Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

    The Blind Services Bureau (BSB) Counselor provides vocational rehabilitation services to individuals who are blind or visually impaired, with a primary focus on helping them achieve meaningful and sustainable employment. This role involves conducting eligibility determinations, vocational assessments, and case management, while developing individualized plans for employment (IPEs) tailored to each participant's career goals, skills, and labor market opportunities. The BSB Counselor works closely with participants to enhance job readiness, secure workplace accommodations, and access assistive technology necessary for employment success. Additionally, this position involves collaborating with employers to promote inclusive hiring practices, building relationships with workforce partners, and ensuring compliance with federal regulations and agency policies through accurate and timely documentation.

    To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Master's degree from an accredited university in vocational rehabilitation counseling, health or social sciences, business administration, education, or closely related field, and two years of professional experience in vocational rehabilitation counseling which included making eligibility, ineligibility and employment outcome determinations by applying federal, state and agency regulations, policies and procedures for a public vocational rehabilitation program; negotiating and resolving conflicts; and performing community outreach public relations activities for an assigned program; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in vocational rehabilitation counseling, health or social sciences, business administration, education, or closely related field and three years of professional experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience above the Bachelor's degree level as described above. Special Requirements Candidates must submit to background checks and fingerprinting upon appointment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
