The San José Mineta international Airport Internship Program is designed to help students gain professional public sector work experience related to their academic area of interest. This paid internship is a great opportunity to build networking, communication, and analytical skills. As a Student Intern at the Airport, you will learn and gain practical experience in multiple areas of airport operations and management. You will also be exposed to various airport industry careers while enriching your personal and educational goals.
SJC Internships provide learning based opportunities that combine Airport business needs with a student's educational focus. Student Interns will perform project-based, para-professional level work specific to the division's core service and will be required to exercise initiative in applying education and/or skills, work semi-independently, and be resourceful and systematic in their approach to project related assignments and tasks. Summer internships are typically 10-12 weeks.
Get Valuable Training and Professional Experience San José Mineta International Airport hosts student interns annually, from majors that include aviation, finance, graphic design, information technology, accounting, urban planning, political science, public administration, and many others. Applicants must be a currently enrolled in college to apply. Interns at SJC have flexible hours to work around their class schedules. Depending on their roles, interns generally work between 20-30 hours per week.
Position DutiesAirport Finance & Administration is currently seeking one (1) Graduate Student Intern to support fiscal activities and projects.
The Budget Graduate Student Intern primary project will involve research of various airport parking programs including revenues and analysis of dynamic parking programs at airports. In particular, the intern will evaluate the use and effectiveness of dynamic parking programs in optimizing revenue and parking occupancy. They will analyze historical and current parking data to assess the financial implications of using dynamic pricing at SJC, study parking patterns and utilization rates, and forecast the impact of pricing changes. Once the analysis and research is complete, the findings will be used to benchmark SJC’s parking program and potential implementation of a dynamic parking program which may result in developing and implementing a dynamic parking program protocol and fee structure.
The Graduate Student Intern should have strong analytical skills including experience using software applications for analysis. Additionally, strong written and verbal communication skills are a plus for reporting and presenting findings effectively.
Applicable majors include but are not limited to: Accounting, Analytics, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Minimum QualificationsTraining and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of a Bachelor's Degree and current
enrollment in a Masters degree program from an accredited college or university in business or public administration
or closely related field.
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid driver's license authorizing operation of a motor vehicle in the state of California may be
required in performing job duties.

Part-time positions(less than 40 hours per week) are required to participate in the City’s PTC 457 Deferred Compensation Plan per Federal regulations. Employees are required to contribute 3.75% of gross earning and the City contributes a matching amount of 3.75%. The funds contributed by the City are 100% vested upon initial deferral and will be held in in a stability of principal investment. This plan is in lieu of social security and does not include any healthcare benefits or contributions.
Part-time employees may elect to contribute additional retirement savings through the City’s Voluntary 457 Deferred Compensation Plan. Additional Information on both plans can be found on the
