The PositionThe Planning, Building, and Environmental Services (PBES) department partners with the community to promote the health, safety, and sustainability of Napa County by providing a range of development services while balancing agricultural, environmental, and economic vitality. PBES is comprised of nine divisions: Planning, Building, Engineering & Conservation, Environmental Health, Natural Resources, Code Compliance, Parks, Administrative and Technical Support. Our Engineering & Conservation Divisionis responsible for the processing of a variety of ministerial and discretionary permits related to private land development proposals, ensuring compliance with grading and drainage standards, road and street standards and stormwater treatment and floodplain management requirements. Division staff implement the Napa County Road and Street Standards, National Pollution Discharge Elimination Systems (NPDES), Phase II MS4 Program, National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), and Napa County General Plan Policies and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
The Engineering Technician I performs a wide variety of routine to moderately difficult field and office sub-professional engineering and administrative tasks in support of department functions; to provide support to professionals in the engineering & conservation division and may be assigned special project responsibilities; and to assist the public.
The Ideal Candidate - Strong attention to detail ensuring accuracy in regulatory submissions, technical reports, project documentation, and communication with internal and external stakeholders.

This recruitment is being conducted to fill one full-time vacancy. The list established by this recruitment may also be used to fill future full-time, part-time, limited term, and extra help vacancies for up to one year.
Scheduled salary increases and Winter Time Off (WTO):
- 3.5% COLA increase effective 7/01/25
- 3.5% COLA increase effective 7/01/26
- 32.0 hours of paid Winter Time Off (WTO)
POSITION REQUIREMENTS Experience and Education: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
Experience: None required. Familiarity in the basic use of relevant computer software is expected at this level.
Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
License or Certificate:* Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
*Any license, certification, or registration required for this position shall be maintained (i.e. active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.
