    Major Duties

    Under general supervision, the Energy, Sustainability, and Innovation Engineer is key in advancing campus sustainability through data-driven strategies and emerging technologies. The incumbent will leverage advanced analytics, automation tools, and smart systems to enhance sustainability initiatives, improve reporting, and support long-term environmental stewardship; and will be responsible for optimizing energy management through predictive maintenance, fault detection diagnostics, and real-time data analysis, ensuring efficiency and cost savings across campus facilities.
    • Research, develop, and execute new sustainability programs under the direction of the Director of Energy & Sustainability; implement the Roadmap to Sustainability, focusing on energy, emissions, waste, and water initiatives.
    • Performs data collection, entry, auditing, and reporting for energy, water, waste, recycling, and greenhouse gas tracking; supports utility budgeting, sustainability reporting, and process improvement initiatives.
    • Leverage data analytics, IoT solutions, and smart systems to optimize energy use, enhance sustainability initiatives, and drive carbon reduction efforts.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications
    • Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in a job-related field required; Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Economics, Environmental Science or a related field preferred.
    • Equivalent to five (5) years of full-time, progressively responsible relevant experience. Oversight and administration of a program with supervision and/or lead experience.
    • Experience in sustainability, energy management, smart systems, or data analytics is desirable.
    • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), or willingness to obtain certification is desirable.


    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
    • Thorough knowledge of general practices, programs, and/or administrative specialty, and operational and fiscal analysis and techniques. Advanced knowledge of policies, procedures, and outside regulations on Sustainability and Energy efficiency efforts.
    • Working knowledge of university infrastructure, policies, and sustainability best practices; understanding of energy auditing, utility budgeting, and sustainability reporting, including LEED, AASHE STARS, and carbon reduction strategies is desirable.
    • Strong data analysis skills, including advanced spreadsheet functions (pivot tables, formulas, charts, and macros) for tracking energy, water, waste, and emissions; strong mathematical foundation with the ability to perform unit conversions and calculations related to power, energy, flow, and volume.
    • Experience with SkySpark, SmartSheet, Power BI, data integrations, and automation tools; experience developing, programming, or maintaining applications in SmartSheet and Power BI for energy and sustainability tracking; familiarity with IoT-based building automation, fault detection diagnostics, and metering systems.
    • Ability and specialized skills to: take initiative and independently plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved; expertise in investigating and analyzing problems with a broad administrative impact and implications; ability to train others and provide lead work direction; interpret, and apply a wide variety of policies and procedures to develop conclusions and make recommendations; perform basic research and statistical analysis; analyze data and make accurate projections using business mathematics and basic statistics; communicate effectively both orally and in writing.


    Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
    • The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver, and more.
    • Classification: Administrative Analyst/Specialist / 1038 / 3
    • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $5537 - $7500 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $5537 - $10014 per month.
    • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday; may include evenings and weekends.
    • This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
    • The position is currently hybrid (3 days in office, 2 days remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
