    DESCRIPTION

    The City of Long Beach Health and Human Services Department, Human Services Bureau has an opening for a Public Health Professional III. Reporting to the Site Based Homeless Programs Officer, this position will serve as the Multi-Service Center (MSC) Coordinator, overseeing and supervising staff supporting programmatic operations.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    • Coordinates with City partners, community members, businesses, and service providers to provide program information and build partnerships.
    • Coordinates with service providers co-located at the MSC to ensure operational and service needs are being met.
    • Responds to public and City departmental inquiries, requests and complaints regarding impacts of homelessness.
    • Conducts process development studies and makes recommendations to streamline processes and enhance efficiency and efficacy.
    • Prepares program reports, evaluations, administrative materials, and correspondence.
    • Supports the operation of additional resources and services located on the Multi-Service Center such as Homeless Court.
    • Oversees quality assurance for the services provided at the Multi-­Service Center and ensures high quality and effective services for the over 30,000 annual visits to the MSC.
    • Assists and supports crisis response and triage efforts.
    • Coordinates safety operations and completion of safety-related requests for Multi-Service Center facility.
    • Oversees all facility maintenance and repair needs such as scheduled maintenance and large-scale construction projects.
    • Supervises the duties of Assistant Multi-Service Center Coordinators.
    • Performs other related duties as required.


    REQUIREMENTS TO FILE

    EDUCATION:
    • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Public Health, Public Policy, Public Administration, or a closely related field. (*proof required)
      • Candidates may substitute experience offering specific and substantial preparation for the duties of the position for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
    EXPERIENCE:
    • A minimum of one (1) year of full-time professional experience supporting social service activities in a public health program.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
    • Master's Degree in Social Work, Public Health, Public Policy, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
    • Professional experience supporting homeless services programs.

    SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL DEMONSTRATE:
    • Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people and populations by consistently exercising tact, good judgment, and a proactive, problem-solving focused style.
    • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to deescalate and resolve conflict effectively.
    • Ability to work independently with general supervision and exercise sound judgment.
    • Ability to work within deadlines, manage multiple assignments, and set appropriate priorities.
    • Proficiency in the use of computers, including email, internet, and office productivity software (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
