Position Overview
The Business Process Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring employee compliance with various certifications, including TCEQ , CDL driver requirements, drug testing, and addressing employee relations concerns. This position will create data analytics for the Human Resources Division. This position reports to the Human Resources Manager III , who oversees the Human Resources Services Division ( HRSD ) within Austin Water.
The HRSD leads key functions for Austin Water’s approximately 1,400 employees, including recruitment, leave administration, employee relations, payroll, ADA accommodations, compensation, and talent development.
The Business Process Specialist will act as the primary liaison with the City of Austin’s Human Resources Department on employee compliance matters. They will collaborate with employees and management to provide clear guidance, ensuring adherence to policies and successful compliance across the department.
Key responsibilities include:
- Understanding and ensuring compliance with City of Austin policies, procedures, and applicable state and federal employment laws.
- Managing multiple priorities with attention to detail.
- Providing QA/QC support for the Employee Relations Team.
- Authoring, editing, and updating ad-hoc and recurring reports.
- Querying and analyzing data as needed for the HRSD division.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

2. Develops and maintains databases to support data analysis and research findings for business projects.

4. Write reports that summarize findings, data collection techniques, implementation options, etc.
5. Establishes project schedules using project planning software/tools, updates and maintains project status reports. Communicate project/process status.
6. Conduct research, analyze trends, determine accuracy and relevancy of data/information, and use sounds judgment to evaluate alternatives.
7. Facilitates and documents meetings, action items, and processes using flowcharting methodologies.
8. Maintains positive working relationships with managers, supervisors, employees and other stakeholders to gain their cooperation and support.
