    Position Overview

    The City of Henderson announces an examination to establish a consideration for hire list to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Sample Custodian (Part-Time) in the Department of Utility Services. The consideration for hire list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one (1) year.

    Under direct supervision, schedules, coordinates, and receives National Pollution Discharge Elimination System and Safe Drinking Water permit compliance samples and process control samples for processing requirements, and performs related duties as assigned.

    Position Details:
    • This is a part-time, non PERS-eligible position
    • This position is not eligible for any benefits
    • Work schedule will consist of an average of 19 hours/week. Hours per week may increase or decrease based on Department need
    • The incumbent's schedule will be Tuesdays and Wednesdays during training and then Mondays and Tuesday once training is completed.
    • May be required to work an alternative or flexible work schedule, outside of normal business hours, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or extended hours.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Graduation from high school, or the equivalent, supplemented by college coursework completed in chemistry, biology, science, or a related field
    • Note: An equivalent combination of related training and experience may be considered
    • Must obtain certification from the Nevada Water Environment Association (NWEA) as a Wastewater Quality Analyst In-Training within one (1) year of appointment as a condition of continued employment
    • Must obtain and maintain certification from the NWEA as a Grade I Wastewater Quality Analyst within two (2) years of appointment as a condition of continued employment
    • Possess and maintain a valid Nevada or “border state” driver’s license, as defined by NRS 483
    • Desirable: One (1) year experience working with a laboratory information management system
    • Desirable: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, science, or related field

    Selection Process

    The selection process will begin with an employment application package screening, with the best-qualified candidates being invited to participate further in the assessment process. This process may include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.       • Second year through fifth calendar years of service - 17.42 hours per month
      • Sixth year through twelfth calendar years of service - 20.59 hours per month
      • Thirteenth calendar year of service and beyond - 23.75 hours per month

    *Actual number of days and hours of PTO granted may vary by position


    BEREAVEMENT LEAVE

    • Four (4) workdays of leave, with pay, per occurrence

    • 13 paid holidays per year
    • Two (2) floating holidays per year (one in first year if hired on or after July 1st)

    WORK WEEK
    • Four-day, 9.5-hour workday, 38-hour work week
    • Four-day, 10-hour workday, 40-hour work week for Police PERS positions
