      • Position Summary
      • ~OPEN TO CURRENT CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY EMPLOYEES ONLY~

        Full-time position available on or after March 3, 2025 for Building Maintenance.

        Under the general directions of the Sr. Director of Facilities Operations & Construction, this role involves supervising and coordinating the work of skilled multi-trade crafts workers and assistants. The incumbent, serving as a working supervisor, possesses expertise in trades such as foundation work, walls, framing, roofing, insulation installation, HVAC, plumbing, electrical maintenance, and facility renovation.

      • Job Duties
      • Duties include but are not limited to:
        • Perform a wide range of facilities renovation work at a journeyman level, including tasks such as wall framing, insulation installation, drywall hanging, tape and finishing of wallboard, ceiling repairs, etc.
        • Perform maintenance and repair work, such as walkway repairs, tile replacement, fixing damaged walls, doors, furniture, hardware, etc.
        • Perform foundation work, interior and exterior walls, framing and ceilings, roofing, installation of insulation, HVAC, and plumbing systems.
        • Perform electrical maintenance, repair work, including work on low voltage control systems.
        • Perform renovation of various facilities and structures.
        • Provide on-the-job training and instructions to less skilled workers in trade and safety practices.
        • Provide input on performance evaluations.
        • Monitor work in progress.
        • Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with specifications, special instructions, and sound trade practices.
        • Assign work to maintenance mechanics and other building trades.
        • Prioritize and coordinate the work of crews or projects.
        • Assign work to qualified crew members based on their skills and expertise.
        • Provide clear work and safety instructions to the assigned crew members.
        • Coordinate work schedules and work assignments to meet the overall construction/modification objectives and sequencing of work.
        • Coordinate job estimates and ensure supplies and materials are available for jobs.
        • Develop and maintain manual and/or computerized work record-keeping systems.
        • Construct minor structures, including foundation work, exterior concrete flatwork, interior and exterior walls and ceilings, framing, and roofing.
        • Collaborate with engineering and design departments.
        • Interpret complicated plans and drawings related to construction and renovation projects.
        • Ability to accurately estimate the cost, time, and materials required for maintenance, repair, and renovation work.
        • Ensure proper documentation of work progress, materials used, and any modifications or changes made.
        • Other duties as assigned.
      • Minimum Qualifications
      • Experience: Two years of experience working as a journey-level crafts worker in one or more building trades including one year in a lead/supervisory capacity. Must have demonstrated achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to those acquired through the completion of an applicable apprenticeship program.
      • Preferred Qualifications
        • Prior experience performing construction activities in a University setting.
        • Prior experience operating construction equipment such as backhoe, skidsteer, excavators, & dump truck.
        • Prior lead experience of crew in similar type activities.
        • Verifiable training in powered lift truck (forklift) operation.
      • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
        • Thorough knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the building and construction trades.
        • Must have effective supervisory practices and techniques.
        • Thorough knowledge of job design and work sequencing related to construction projects.
        • Thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal safety, building and construction codes and regulations.
        • Must possess journey-level skill in a building and construction trade.
        • Ability to operate all applicable building tools and equipment.
        • Ability to plan and direct the work of skilled crafts workers and their assistants.
        • Ability to determine and coordinate staffing, material and equipment needs for multiple jobs and projects.
        • Ability to perform basic design work; read blueprints; work from plans and specifications; prepare rough sketches.
        • Ability to analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
        • Ability to ensure accuracy and maintenance of assigned record-keeping systems and prepare reports.
        • May be required to possess a California Driver’s License valid for the operation of any vehicle or equipment they are required to maintain and operate.
      • License or Certifications
        • Valid California Driver's License.
      • Salary Range
      • Anticipated salary will be $7,170 - $7,887 per month plus excellent paid benefits. Salary will depend on the qualifications of the successful finalist. (Full Facilities Project Supervisor range: $7,170 - $9,088 per month)
