    Workdays & Hours: Field Operations is a 24/7 Operation - weekend work may be required. This position is a first responder in severe weather conditions/emergencies which will be subject to work after hours, emergency call back hours, nights, weekends, holidays and will participate in an on-call rotation schedule. This role requires proactive and dependable individuals who can quickly adapt to changing conditions and respond efficiently to urgent situations. Ensuring the smooth and safe operation of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems, maintaining the success of our operations team and the satisfaction of our customers during critical times.

    The Water Department / Field Operations Division, is seeking qualified individuals to fill Equipment Operators (Dump Truck) positions. As the largest division of the Water Department, Field Operations plays a vital role in maintaining the city's infrastructure, ensuring that essential services are delivered to Fort Worth and surrounding customers.

    These positions are crucial to the daily operations of the division and contribute directly to the success of the department. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the loading, transporting, and unloading of heavy equipment using a dump truck, while ensuring safety and efficiency throughout each task. Additionally, the role will involve performing manual and physical labor related to the operation, repair, maintenance, and installation of water and wastewater piping systems for the city. As a key contributor to the operation and growth of the city's infrastructure, you will play a critical role in maintaining essential services that support the City of Fort Worth’s residents and its fast-paced expansion.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • High School Diploma or GED is required
    • Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class “A” at the time of hire based on assignment with no air brake restrictions.
    • Minimum (1) year of professional experience in the operation of motorized equipment; including experience with the operation /driving of a dump truck with a trailer is required.
    • Ability to pass a hands on test out assessment on heavy equipment at time of interview
    • Required to obtain a TCEQ Water Distribution Class D or Wastewater Collection I license is required within 12 months of hire. In order to obtain this license, you must be able to pass a written test and criminal background check.
    • Required to work overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Including working on-call on a rotation schedule.
    • Must pass a Physical, Drug Screen and Education and Background verification
    • Must be able to work in outdoor extreme weather conditions and lift to 100 pounds

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • At least two (2) years of experience in construction, utility repair, fieldwork, or maintenance.
    • Prior utilities work experience.
    • Previous water or wastewater experience.

    The Equipment Operator job responsibilities include:
    • Operate a variety of motorized equipment related to construction and maintenance.
    • Operate a variety of hand tools.
    • Assist in traffic control.
    • Load and unload material and equipment.
    • Assist in the construction, repair, maintenance, and inspection of water and wastewater utilities

    Working Conditions and Physical Demand

    Depending on the assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling, and lifting; depending on assignments. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils, and workspace restrictions.

    Heavy Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up-to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.

    Medical Program
