Title:Internship - Hampden County Juvenile Court
Pay rate: - Working towards/Bachelor's degree - $20/hour

promote opportunities for children to reside in safe, stable, permanent family
environments whenever possible, to strengthen families when their children are in need
of services, to rehabilitate juveniles, to protect the public from delinquent and criminal
activity while holding offenders accountable and addressing the harm suffered by the
community and the victim, and to decide all cases fairly and impartially with dedication,
integrity and professionalism.

Notes: - This position will report fully onsite, Monday-Friday, 8:30-4:30pm.
- The intern will primarily be based in the Springfield Juvenile court but may occasionally travel to the Holyoke Juvenile Court.
Position Summary:The intern, under the supervision and guidance of the Hampden County Clerk’s Office management team, will work on a variety of assignments involving the administration of court operations. The intern will provide customer service to attorneys, litigants, law enforcement personnel and the general public. The intern should be able to provide a broad range of skills, proficiency in writing, reading and computer skills in data entry and core Microsoft software. The intern will primarily be based in the Springfield Juvenile court with occasional travel to the Holyoke Juvenile court. The intern will be provided with an invaluable learning opportunity about the inner workings of the juvenile court. The intern will gain first-hand knowledge about the court system, court operations, juvenile delinquency law and child welfare law. The intern will be a part of the Clerk’s Office team but will be exposed to multiple court departments, agencies and attorneys practicing in the Juvenile Court. The intern will develop their skills while contributing to
the mission and daily operations of the Juvenile Court.
Duties: The intern’s daily duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Providing customer service to attorneys, litigants, law enforcement personnel and
• the general public;
• Assist the public by helping at the counter and checking litigants in for court;
• Answering the phones;
• Creating Cases;
• Organizing files and exhibits;
• Assist the staff in performing administrative tasks;
• Preparing daily lists, files and documents for court;
• Providing case processing functions;
• Scheduling court events and sending notices to various parties and attorneys;
• Assisting in the courtroom as needed;
• Entering information into Mass Courts;
Minimum Requirements: •Working towards an Associates degree, Bachelor’s degree or Masters degree from an accredited college or university, preferably with a concentration in legal studies or a paralegal program;
• Excellent organization and communication skills, strong academic background
• and a desire for teamwork;
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe and strong computer skills;
• Strong organization skill and a strong work ethic;
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment;
• Eager to learn about day-to-day internal court operations;
• Energetic and enthusiast about serving the public;
• Ability to analyze and solve problems;
• Strong inter-personal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively;
• The desire to be part of a team and but also be able to work independently;
• This is an in-person internship.
• The intern must be available in-person during court hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).
• The intern will primarily be based in the Springfield Juvenile court but may occasionally travel to the Holyoke Juvenile Court.
