    The Job

    The Project and Facilities Management Department is recruiting for a Custodial Services Chief who will plan, direct and coordinate the custodial activities of the Facilities Management Division, while overseeing all custodial services to ensure buildings and surrounding areas are clean, orderly, and in a safe and sanitary condition.

    The position initiates and coordinates all actions required to effectively operate the custodial services. Typically, d evelops standards and performance criteria for cleaning operations and establishes work schedules and methods. The Custodial Services Chief s upervises, through subordinates, the work of custodians engaged in the custodial maintenance of County buildings and facilities. Responsibilities include assigning and inspecting work; justifying and implementing the custodial budget, utilize Public Contract Code (PCC) and internal County procurement guidelines to develop Request for Proposals (RFP) and bidding documents; competitively solicit for bids using internal County software; assign contracts based on various award criteria, administer personnel actions, and complete and submit various reports.

    ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

    The Project & Facilities Management Department (PFMD) is a multi-disciplined department of professionals providing San Bernardino County with comprehensive building and facilities services. The department builds and maintains the majority of the County's vast infrastructure, which includes over 250 facilities. Several key departments served include Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, Fire District, Sheriff, Probation, Regional Parks, County Administrative Offices, Library, Museum, and many more!

    The Project Management team are forward thinkers, seeking innovative solutions to improve processes, deliver quality services, and develop meaningful relationships with customers. Additionally, the team are hands-on, independent, and self-motivating, preparing bid packages and advertisements for procurement, negotiating and administering contracts for design and construction, and providing inspection and construction project management services from concept through occupancy.

    The Project Management team is committed to the timely and cost-effective design and construction of projects included in the County's annual Capital Improvement Program. Additionally, the team is dedicated to providing quality improvements to ensure acceptable and safe environments for County departments and the public they serve.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Pre-Employment Process: Applicants must successfully pass a background check and a job-related physical exam, including a drug test, prior to employment.

    Physical: This job requires frequent lifting and carrying items weighing 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds, and the ability to move 80 pound containers.

    Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required. Employees will be required to make provision for transportation. A valid California Class C driver's license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation.

    Minimum Requirements

    Experience: Four (4) years of experience managing or supervising custodial activities in a school, hospital, office building, detention facility or large workshop environment.

    NOTE : Applicants must clearly describe qualifying supervisory/managerial custodial experience on the application.
