The Supervising Accountant-Auditor has a broad scope of work, encompassing county-wide responsibilities for financial activities. What you will typically be responsible for:
- Supervising the daily operations of accounting, auditing, property tax, budgetary or financial functional area.
- Preparing complex financial, statistical, budgetary, tax, and accounting/auditing analysis and reports.
- Providing consultation on fiscal, accounting, auditing policies and procedures to County staff and external agencies.
- Supervising the preparation of journals, transfer of funds, and other financial documents.
- Supervising the maintenance of various financial schedules and subsidiary ledgers.
- Providing staff training.
- Reviewing duties and workflow and overseeing change management.

The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future openings for up to twelve (12) months.
Minimum QualificationsEducation: Either possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, finance, accounting, or a closely related field. Course work must have included at least 12 semester or 18 quarter units of accounting or auditing; or possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification, Certified Government Auditing Professional (CGAP) certification, or the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) certification.
Experience: Four (4) years of full-time (or the equivalent of full-time) professional accounting/auditing experience, which must have included one (1) year of experience providing lead direction to staff in an accounting/auditing division. Lead direction must have been performed while employed in a class comparable to Accountant-Auditor III, Accountant III or Auditor III in Contra Costa County.
Substitution for Education: One (1) year of full-time or its equivalent experience as an Auditor-Accountant III, Accountant III or Auditor III with Contra Costa County may be substituted for the required Bachelor's degree. One (1) additional year of full-time or its equivalent experience may be substituted for the academic major. No substitution is allowed for the required semester or quarter units of accounting/auditing.
Selection ProcessApplication Filing and Evaluation: Applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.
HireVue Assessment: The HireVue Assessment is an online interview that will measure candidates' competencies as they relate to the job. Candidates must achieve an average passing score of 70% or higher on each of the competencies, as well as an overall passing score of 70% or higher. These may include, but are not limited to: Critical Thinking, Professional and Technical Expertise, Professional Integrity and Ethics, Informing, and Coaching and Developing Others. (Weighted 100%)
