Education and Experience : A High School diploma, (GED), or higher, and five (5) years of animal services experience.

Licenses and Certificates : Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state.

General Purpose

Under general supervision, plan, coordinate and ensure animal movement through the Animal Services Center is expedited to improve animal care, minimize or eliminate delays to shelter flow-through, and decrease length of stay.

Typical Duties

Responsible for ensuring the most direct pathway from source to home, while improving animal welfare during the process. Involves: Participate in daily rounds. Print kennel inventory daily. Ensure that computer inventory matches animals' locations within the shelter and all animals have been given their vaccines on intake. Work with the Kennel Supervisor to ensure animals are housed appropriately and moved in a timely fashion according to their health, behavior, holding status, and placement options. Assist the Shift Supervisor or his designee with completion of missing animals from the inventory.

Assist all divisions in overall management of the shelter population within the facility's capacity for care. Involves: Regulates and manages the canine population in the shelter. Responsible for establishing and maintaining a co-housing system for dogs in which each animal is evaluated for capability of living with other dogs while in the shelter, and ensuring dogs are grouped together for co-housing based on criteria such as temperament, similarity in size and length of stay. Ensure that animals in canine recovery are fed and watered in the evening. Ensure Field Supervisor are kept apprise of the situation.

Provides in-shelter quality assurance, identifying areas to be addressed, and ensures maintenance of an accurate and complete animal inventory. Involves: Review reports for quality assurance (QA) to ensure that relevant policies are being adhered to. Identify records requiring follow-up and address with responsible parties. Review alerts and inventory to identify barriers to timely movement of animals from the facility. Facilitate completion of tasks needed by follow-up with the appropriate division or individuals. Run regular reports to identify intake/disposition, length of stay, average shelter population, and other trends; advise appropriate parties of findings. Act as back-up for at-risk quality assurance.
