    THE CITY

    THE POSITION

    MAINTENANCE WORKER II

    (Full-Time, Benefited)

    Current vacancy is in the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department.

    Parks, Recreation & Community Services (PRCS)- Parks Division

    This position performs a variety of grounds maintenance duties in the upkeep of City parks and landscape areas. Operates a variety of hand and power tools including, but not limited to, lawnmowers, edgers, trimmers, blowers, saws, sprayers, or similar tools; mows, edges, weeds, fertilizes and waters lawns; trims, prunes and hedges trees and shrubs; assists in the application of pesticides and herbicides to maintain lawns, shrubs and trees; removes litter and debris from grounds, paths, walkways and playgrounds; sweeps and cleans recreation areas and facilities; keeps restrooms, play equipment, picnic areas and recreation facilities clean and orderly; assists with minor irrigation repairs and graffiti removal; operates trucks to carry equipment and crew; hauls trash and dirt in cleaning and leveling park areas; assists with digging ditches, trenches and holes; works with traffic control devices to ensure safety and maintain safe work areas; maintains park restrooms; erects bleachers and stands; prepares fields for sporting events, and performs cursory inspection of playground equipment to ensure visible hazards are not present. Perform other related duties.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be; High School Diploma or equivalent and one year of experience in maintenance, repair and/or construction work including some semi-skilled duties such as operating grounds maintenance equipment at parks or recreation facilities. Or, in lieu of the education requirement, two years of experience performing maintenance, repair, or construction or grounds maintenance work.

    License and Certificates

    Possession of a valid California Class “C” driver’s license required at time of examination; California Class “B” driver’s license is desirable.

    EXAMINATION PROCEDURES

    • Written Exam (Weighted at 30%): To determine knowledge of maintenance. (Tentatively scheduled for the Week of March 10, 2025).
    • Performance Test (Weighted at 40%): To measure ability to perform semi-skilled tasks. (Tentatively scheduled for the Week of March 24, 2025).
    • Oral Appraisal Interview (Weighted at 30%): To evaluate training, experience, and personal qualifications. (Tentatively scheduled for the Week of March 31, 2025).
