    The Position

    Legal Secretaries perform specialized secretarial duties for attorneys, administrative law judges, and/or hearings/appeals officers including preparing legal documents and correspondence; calendaring; maintaining records; and providing assistance on routine problems and inquiries which are not of a legal nature.

    Under general supervision, incumbents perform a variety of administrative support activities for the ESD Legal team in the Carson City office. Incumbents will answer inquiries concerning activities for court cases; retrieve and communicate information requested in a timely manner; prepare, proofread, and file court documents as needed for the attorneys; provide professional correspondences for Attorneys as needed; sort, screen, and distribute incoming/outgoing mail; prepare photocopies/facsimiles and operate a variety of office equipment; maintain calendar for prioritizing and arranging meetings, conferences, appointments, leave, court hearings, and legal filing deadlines; order, distribute, and maintain office supplies; establish, maintain, process and update file, records, reports and other documents; and help coordinate travel arrangements that include securing air travel for attorneys. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of clerical experience, two of which were performing progressively responsible legal secretarial work in a training capacity; OR one year of experience as a Legal Secretary I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes An Associate of Science degree with a legal secretarial emphasis is equivalent to one year of legal secretarial trainee experience. Completion of a legal secretarial diploma program from an accredited business college is equivalent to one year of legal secretarial trainee experience. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
