  • Job Description

    Description

    Under moderate supervision, monitors security related technology and behavioral analytics to detect threats, customer code of conduct violations, and criminal activity.

    Examples of Duties

    • Utilizes technology and behavioral analytics to detect threats, customer code violations, and criminal activity
    • Monitors radio communications to determine the need for security assistance and/or intervention from available resources
    • Receives reports of crime, suspicious activities, citizens' complaints, and general inquiries
    • Assigns, coordinates, and dispatches field units in response to requests for service and/or observed activity
    • Advises responding units of potential problem areas and monitors field unit activities
    • Enters and compiles data relating to calls into the Metro's Computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system and prepares reports
    • Coordinates with law enforcement personnel, other security personnel, and Metro staff
    • Contributes to ensuring that the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs of Metro are carried out

    May be required to perform other related job duties

    Minimum Qualifications

    A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:

    Education
    • High School diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or California High School Equivalency Exam Certificate

    Experience
    • Two years of relevant experience performing security or law enforcement-related services and support

    Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements
    • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions
    • Must be able to obtain Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) Dispatcher Training Certification within 12 months of hire
    • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand Spanish preferred

    • Operating personal computers and general office equipment
    • Communicating effectively with others
    • Interacting tactfully and effectively with the public and other departmental staff
    • Exercising good judgment and making instant decisions in a timely manner

    Ability to (defined as a present competence to perform an observable behavior or produce an observable result)
    • Interface with individuals who may be hostile, irrational, emotionally distraught, or mentally ill
    • Differentiates between routine, priority, and high priority messages and initiates responses or advises supervisory personnel
    • Work with partners, teams, and independently
    • Understand and follow oral and written instructions and procedures
    • Conduct surveillance to detect threats
    • Accurately and clearly report facts and details regarding observations
    • Type 35 words per minute
    • Read, write, speak, and understand English

    • Reaching by extending hand(s) and/or arm(s) in any direction
    • Communicating through speech in the English language required
    • Good distance vision and/or depth perception to judge distances
    • Color recognition (e.g., distinguishing wires, resistors, containers, light signals, etc.)
