    The Position

    Conservation Staff Specialists assist in developing, formulating, and coordinating programs, policies and procedures related to areas such as resource management, safety and training, fire management and policy management pertinent to the assigned area of natural resource management, preservation, conservation and protection.

    This position is located in Washoe Valley. The Safety & Training Conservation Staff Specialist coordinates and oversees the services common to safety, training, budget allocation and prioritization, and policy interpretation. The Safety and Training Conservation Staff Specialist reports to and is supervised by the Safety and Training Program Manager. Responsibilities include implementing, tracking, reviewing, and interpreting training requirements common to the Division's Fire, Conservation Camp, Aviation, Natural Resource, Fiscal, and Support Services Programs. This position prepares budgets, tracks expenditures, and establishes future safety and training needs to meet the Division's mission. The position establishes and interprets training policies and procedures at national, state and Division levels. Incumbent utilizes and manages the Incident Qualification System (IQS) to track and coordinate Division and local cooperators personnel fire training, training records, qualifications, and dispatch status. The position also tracks qualifications and certifications related to equipment operation and natural resource management. This position coordinates with other staff in providing recommendations to manage and support safety and training. The position is also responsible for representing the agency at regional interagency training meetings and public education events. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, ecology, environmental studies, environmental science, fire management, forestry, geology, natural resource management, parks management, or related field and three years of professional experience in a relevant resource management field that included assisting in developing, formulating, and coordinating programs, policies and procedures; coordinating special grant programs and/or contracts; and coordinating training programs; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and five years of professional experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Conservation Staff Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes Incumbents may be required to obtain and maintain certification as an Agency Certified Contract Monitor. Special Requirements Applicants may be required to undergo a background investigation prior to being considered for employment. A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.     Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
