    The Job

    PAY INCREASES EVERY SIX (6) MONTHS!

    San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department seeks an experienced Research and Data Analyst to coordinate and perform critical data analysis to inform decision-making that will help improve criminal justice programs within the department and guide the development, integration and implementation of long and short-range plans to support the operations of the department. The Research and Data Analyst will plan and conduct surveys and analytical studies of administrative and operational activities; develop recommendations for appropriate actions based on analysis of gathered data; present reports of findings; and contribute to the development of legislative recommendations.

    Positions are primarily located at Sheriff's Training Facility in Devore.

    Essential duties will include:
    • Preparing statistical reports bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually and/or as requested for dissemination internally and externally (e.g., state reporting to DOJ, Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC), Behavioral Health, Probation, Bureau of Administration, and the Courts).
    • Analyzing and interpreting data, coordinating programs based on research and recommending a course of action for technical and grant opportunities.
    • Preparing oral and written presentations and documents of study results and recommendations to assist management in making informed administrative and operational decisions.
    • Developing informational bulletins to report and monthly, quarterly, and annual corrections statistics.
    • Managing booking reports and tracking average daily population.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Background: Since this position is located in the Sheriff's Department, applicants must not have been convicted of a felony. Prior to appointment, candidates will be fingerprinted and must successfully pass a full background investigation, which includes a polygraph.

    Minimum Requirements

    EXPERIENCE:
    Two (2) years of experience performing analytical duties as a primary job function in any of the following areas: organizational operations and programs, data/statistical analysis and reporting, quantitative and qualitative analysis, fiscal analysis, contracts/grants administration or management.

    -AND-
    EDUCATION:
    An Associate degree in political science, behavioral/social science, data analytics, accounting/finance, public/business administration or other relevant field of study. (This information should be clearly indicated in the Education section of the Application.)
    SUBSTITUTION:
    Two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may substitute for the required education.

    Desired Qualifications

    The Ideal candidate profile:
    • Conduct and interpret the results of multivariate analysis using statistical methods.
    • Experience developing and presenting ideas and deliverables to internal teams and leadership.
    • Possess strong research and analytical skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
    • Experience in a law enforcement environment.
    • Experience utilizing applications such as Excel, JIMS, Visio Diagramming Software, Tiburon or equivalent Computer Aided Dispatch Software.
