Under the direction of the Wildfire Program Coordinator, the Wildland Firefighter position will assist with wildfire suppression, management, and control. This non-sworn, seasonal position will also have duties involving fuels reduction activities, prescribed burning, fire prevention, public education, patrol, and detection.
The approximate dates of employment are from March 17, 2025 - September 18, 2025. Total hours worked are not to exceed 1,500 annually. The work schedule for this position is 40 hours per week (minus holidays), with the ability to work other hours as needed. Note: weekend and holiday work may be required to address emergencies or other operational demands.
Salary Information for this position is $22.00 - $24.00 per hour for the Wildland Firefighter assignment and $25.00 - $30.00 per hour for the Lead Wildland Firefighter/Engine Boss assignment, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The exact makeup of the module will depend on candidate experience and qualifications.

Specifically, the Wildland Firefighter position: - Engages in suppressing range, forest, and other national fire assignments
- Participates in forest restoration operations, including fuels mitigation and prescribed fires
- Assists with wildfire prevention and mitigation projects, including education and outreach
- Suppresses and extinguishes wildland fires
- Performs fire prevention, forest restoration, and hazard fuels mitigation activities
- Assists with prescribed fire planning and implementation
In addition to the duties above, the Lead Wildland Firefighter/Engine Boss position: - Serves as a supervisory wildland firefighter in the absence of the Wildfire Program Coordinator, providing oversight and direction for wildland fire crew during fire suppression, mitigation, and prevention operations.
- Assists in planning and assigning work for the wildland fire crew and monitors progress to meet program goals and objectives.
The Wildland Firefighter must have the ability to: - Learn fire suppression operations and the use of emergency equipment.
- Learn and apply standard wildland firefighting, emergency aid, hazardous materials, and fire prevention techniques.
- Perform strenuous or peak physical activities during emergency, training, or station maintenance activities for prolonged periods of time under extreme conditions such as heights, intense heat, cold, or smoke.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
