Position Description Final Filing Date: Monday, February 24, 2025 Exam#: 25/80J22/01MZ The Public Works, Facilities & Parks Department (PWFP) brings together a range of functions to ensure safe building construction, plan for the future needs of the County, manage infrastructure and county facilities, and protect natural resources. The Department is responsible for public works, county roads and bridges, county parks, and county facilities.
The Public Works, Facilities & Parks Department has an immediate need for a Senior Account Clerk. Under general supervision, the Senior Account Clerk performs complex clerical financial and statistical record keeping duties. This position is the lead/complex-level class in the Account Clerk series and performs moderately complex bookkeeping work requiring the application of a working knowledge of bookkeeping principles and following general departmental procedures. Supervision received includes general procedures and assistance with resolution of more difficult problems.
The Eligible List established by this recruitment process may be used to fill current and future vacancies on a regular full-time, part-time, or temporary basis County-wide.
This classification is part of a flexible series. Incumbents appointed at the lower level of the career series maybe promoted up to the higher level of the career series subject to their meeting the employment standards for the higher class and a recommendation for their promotion by the appointing authority.
Examples of Duties- Posts financial data to a variety of bookkeeping records including account cards, journals, ledgers and logs; sorts and verifies source documents for accuracy.
- Batches, codes and records data for entry to computer systems; may use computer terminal to enter and retrieve data.
- Responds to questions regarding financial transactions by reviewing files and records; prepares special reports in response to general directives.
- Following general procedures, summarizes and reconciles financial transactions recorded on various logs, journals and ledgers; posts adjustments to records as needed to balance records and to correct errors in the status of accounts.
- Receives and disburses funds; may prepare and sign checks; balances funds received with logs and journals.
- Keeps statistical records of departmental activities and of work performed.
- May maintain departmental payroll records, prepare requisitions and process payment authorizations; keeps records of these transactions.
- Computes fees, penalties and interest charges.
- Composes and types routine correspondences.

Examples of Experience/Education/TrainingAny combination of training, education and/or experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities and required conditions of employment listed above is qualifying. An example of a way these requirements might be acquired is:
Training : Completion of a training course leading to an account/statistical clerk certificate and six months of supervised on the job training
OR Experience: Eighteen months of experience performing statistical and financial record keeping tasks equivalent to an Account Clerk in Monterey County
Additional Information REQUIRED CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT The required conditions of employment include, but are not limited to the following:
- Possess a valid California Class C driver license at the time of appointment and possess and maintain a satisfactory driving record or provide evidence of suitable transportation which is approved by the appointing authority.
- Be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and during times of disaster and/or emergency.
