    Description

    THE POSITION

    The Town of Prescott Valley is seeking the next Police Lieutenant to positively influence and successfully deliver the Town and Police Department's Mission, Values, and Goals through critical analysis. The successful candidate will demonstrate a positive and cohesive approach to leadership, a strong work ethic and ability to work through personnel challenges, a focus on employee resilience and health, a demonstrated ability to understand and implement incident command, department policy, and law enforcement tactics.     Examples of Duties

    Essential duties include:
    • Responsible for fostering a work culture that aligns with the values of the Town and Police Department; provides leadership in the delivery of superior services to Town residents and businesses.
    • Provides professional guidance, training, and policy interpretation for assigned divisions.
    • Assures minimum staffing levels are met; plans, allocates, and monitors time, people, equipment, and other resources to ensure efficient organization and completion of work.
    • Takes command of major operations or emergencies as needed.
    • Evaluates department training needs, staffing needs, budget resources, and management of personnel to achieve department-wide program objectives. Submits requests to the Chief as needed.
    • Supervises, administers, and/or investigates complaints, reports of emergencies and/or requests for service; determines the need for law enforcement action and delivery of police services.

    Compensation:

    The Town's complete compensation package includes salary, benefits, and a high-performance culture. The Town package includes a no-cost to individual health insurance plan, participation in the state retirement system, optional 457 deferred compensation with town match up to 6%, vacation, holidays, and additional comprehensive benefits.

    The expected hiring range is $107,411 - $120,000

    The full salary range is $107,411 - $150,384

An overview of the tentative recruitment process and testing dates for this process are summarized below. All dates, locations, and components are subject to change.

    Application: January 17 – 31
    • Application, supporting documentation, and initial screen questions due January 31 at 5:00PM AZ Time through the online application system (NeoGov). The town will only accept information through the online portal submitted before the deadline.

    Testing Process: March 3, 2025

    Successful candidates will be invited to the next phase which includes, but not limited to, the following components:
    • Structured resume submission
    • Predictive Index Assessment
    • Oral board presentation
    • Interview panel

    A Promotional List will be published upon completion of the testing process.

    Closing Date: January 31 at 5:00PM AZ time

    Typical Qualification

    Requirements:

    Formal Education/Knowledge: Work requires knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through two years of college resulting in an Associate's degree* or equivalent (minimum 60 credit hours). Bachelor's degree preferred.

    *A Bachelor's degree will be a minimum requirement beginning on 7/1/2026

    Experience: Minimum ofthree (3) years' experience at the range of sergeant or above.

    Certifications and Other:
    • Must possess AZ P.O.S.T. certification as a Law Enforcement Officer or the ability to receive their recertification through AZ P.O.S.T. within six (6) months. Preference will be given to those candidates currently holding AZPOST Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer.
    • Must pass a police department pre-employment background investigation including criminal history check.
    • Must have a Valid Arizona driver's license with acceptable driving record at time of hire.
    • Continued qualification in firearm use.
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule to cover 24-hour, seven-day week operations and respond to service calls, staff coverage needs, or other emergencies as needed.
    • On-call duty is required on a rotational basis.
    • Travel required on a rotational basis for assigned conferences or training.
