    The Job

    Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) is recruiting for a Hospital Psychologist*to provide mental health care in a hospital inpatient care environment. The classification performs individual and group psychotherapy, clinical intake interviews, evaluations, crisis intervention, and diagnostic testing in accordance with the laws and regulations of the California Board of Psychology (BOP).

    Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Conducts intake assessments; prepares diagnostic evaluations which includes obtaining personal, social, emotional, and substance abuse history; determines the cause, nature and severity of the client's current mental status. As required, uses appropriate evidence-based practices or tools appropriately.
    • Develops, evaluates and implements goal-oriented treatment team plans.
    • Provides direct treatment services such as individual and group therapy to a challenging and complex client population; provides treatment services to clients in areas such as inpatient and substance abuse.
    • Reports information concerning clients' medication and treatment compliance, response, and adverse reactions or failure to maintain stability, to treatment team.
    • Intervenes in crisis situations when a patient exhibits acute psychiatric symptoms which present an immediate threat to the patient or others.
    • Provides rehabilitative and socialization services to restore and maintain the best possible functional level of patients with chronic psychological impairments.
    • Develops and/or implements program changes related to such areas as, treatment goals and directions, the incorporation of newly mandated services, and contract services.
    • Participates in the staff review of a case; recommends changes in therapeutic techniques, environment, and/or charting to facilitate patient recovery.
    • Recommends when to alter or terminate treatment; develops follow-up plan and/or post treatment techniques and activities.
    • Serves as a consultant or trainer for staff, community agencies, and other professionals on mental health assessment and treatment services; provides community outreach and makes special presentations to civic groups.
    • Assists clients and families in understanding the nature of their emotional conditions; provides emotional support and psychosocial educational information to assist clients in identifying external stressors that contribute to their functional impairment.
    • Selects, administers, scores, and interprets a wide variety of objective and projective psychological tests, including cognitive/intelligence, personality, and achievement tests for the purpose of assessment, diagnosis and treatment of emotionally disturbed clients.
    • Depending on assignment, prepares case documentation, progress and court reports, conservatorship requests, special reports, manuals, and correspondence.
    • May act as a staff liaison to a regional and/or county-wide mental health services program; monitors therapeutic and administrative components of the program.
    • Provides vacation and temporary relief as required.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Pre-Employment Process: Applicants selected for these positions must pass a background investigation which includes verification of employment history and education as well as a physical exam and drug screening.

    Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

    Schedule Availability: Candidates must be available to work a 4/10 schedule with one weekend work day, every week ( Example: Sunday-Wednesday or Wednesday-Saturday ). Pay differentials are offered.

    Minimum Requirements

    Degree: Must have received or be within three (3) months of receiving a doctorate degree in psychology with a field specialization in clinical or counseling psychology from an approved or accredited educational institution that meets the educational requirements for licensure. The doctoral program must have included 1500 hours of clinical internship. Job offers will not be made until the degree is actually received. A copy of transcript is required upon appointment.

    Desired Qualifications

    Bilingual skills are highly desirable. Incumbents who successfully pass a bilingual examination provided by San Bernardino County Human Resources are eligible to receive additional compensation for their verbal and written translation skills.
