    MOS Code(s): None

    Education and Experience : Bachelor's Degree or higher, in Business or Public Administration, Management, Fleet or Transportation Management, or related field, and three (3) years of fleet repair shop management experience; or an Associate’s Degree and five (5) years of fleet repair shop management experience.

    Licenses and Certificates : Valid Texas Class "B" Driver's License (CDL) or equivalent from another state within three (3) months of appointment. Must obtain and maintain the EVT M-1 (Level 1 Supervisor) and EVT F-5 Aerial Fire Apparatus certification within one (1) year of appointment.

    Special Requirements: Positions requiring a CDL or positions of a safety sensitive nature may be subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with federal regulations.

    General Purpose

    Under general supervision, plan, direct, supervise, coordinate and oversee the day to day work of assigned staff in one or more work units at one or more work sites. Prioritize emergency vehicle repairs to meet the City's strategic goals. Perform complex budgetary, administrative, personnel and strategic initiatives to improve the emergency fleet services, maximize resource utilization, and support departmental short and long-term financial activities.

    Typical Duties

    Oversee and direct repair, maintenance, record keeping, office support and related fleet services. Involves: Accept and prioritize work and related repair and maintenance needs. Schedule staff to work various shifts at various locations. Assign repair, maintenance and other work to staff. Review, evaluate and assess repairs undertaken. Monitor expenditures. As assigned/required, develop specifications, evaluate responses, and participate in the bid process. Identify areas needing improvement. Recommend techniques, supplies, materials and/or approaches to assist staff. Identify and provide staff training. Interact with federal, state and local officials, public officials, vendors, contractors, other departments or the general public to provide accurate information to inquiries, resolve problems and respond to complaints, including complaints from individuals who may be irate.

    Perform general and fiscal administration. Involves: Participate in setting performance goals and priorities that contribute to departmental mission. Prepare recommendations and justify program and capital funding to assist in preparation of section budget and control expenditures. Oversee preparation of activity reports.

    Monitor and control assigned location operations. Involves: Review and assessment of supplies, equipment, materials and staffing requirements. Identification of parts, tools and other service needs. Determine and oversee compliance to safety, hazard and related programs, policies and procedures. Identify and/or provide training programs, materials and related information. Review and inspect for compliance based on order, needs and/or other requirements. Develop and maintain a variety of records. Develop and present regularly scheduled and ad hoc reports.

    Supervise technicians, mechanics and other service, office and other assigned staff. Involves: Interview applicants. Recommend hiring. Organize and coordinate workflow. Assign, delegate, review, inspect and accept work completed. Guide task performance. Train and develop employees. Prepare employees' performance appraisals. Approve sick leave, vacation time and monitor overtime log. Recall employees to work in emergencies. Resolve grievances. Recommend employee discipline, suspension and/or termination.

    Perform related duties as required. Involves: Perform duties of immediate supervisor or subordinate personnel as necessary to ensure continuity of operations during absences. Perform maintenance and inspections of aerial devices annually or as needed.
