    Education and Experience : Bachelor's Degree or higher in Education, Museum Education, or related field, and three (3) years of professional experience in education in a museum setting, outreach, or involvement programs.

    Licenses and Certificates : Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state by time of appointment.

    General Purpose

    Under general direction, plan, coordinate, and manage educational and cultural programs and activities that actively engage with the community throughout the city and region to extend the reach of Museum resources and expand the diversity of museum audiences.

    Typical Duties

    Manage the museum's community programs. Involves: Develop, execute, and evaluate the effectiveness of the museum's education and exhibition-related initiatives, audience development, and development of public/private partnerships. Implement, oversee, and evaluate programs to ensure or increase effectiveness and efficiency. Oversee and conduct research through focus groups, surveys, and other means to access community needs and evaluate the effectiveness of all programs. Develop and implement strategic plans to ensure program goals, including appropriate timetables, objectives, and budgets. Conduct outreach activities to promote and engage community organizations, schools, and social service agencies in programs and educational opportunities with the Museum's rich historical content and resources. Oversee the scheduling and staffing of all education and exhibition-related programs. Oversee and manage the education division and program budgets. Perform administrative duties.

    Develop strategic alliances to increase the effectiveness of all programs. Involves: Build relationships and supervise in-depth programs with public schools. Create and develop ways to link with new audiences through visual arts and museum collections. Build and maintain key relationships throughout the community. Develop and maintain a network of local support for program needs. Manage the ongoing relationship and collaboration with school districts. Identify opportunities and recruit teaching artists. Advocate programs, events, and exhibits by arranging, hosting, or participating in events. Oversee weekend and evening programs when required. Teach or substitute teach when needed. Advise and collaborate with teaching artists on art education strategies.

    Develop strategic plans to increase program attendance and participation. Involves: Identify, attract, and retain program audiences. Oversee the development and design of education materials for all programs. Evaluate the effectiveness of all program promotional initiatives. Customize curriculum and develop programs that connect with the interests and needs of the community.

    Coordinate all program funding sources. Involves: Identify and research local, regional, and national funding opportunities. Develop potential grant opportunities and research, help prepare and submit grant applications. Make solicitations and prepare written proposals for support. Engage funders in programs. Solicit support for exhibition sponsorships. Meet with representatives of funding sources to develop proposals or assist with developing and innovating new projects and programs.

    Work with key staff to schedule and implement events to expand membership and fundraising drives, and other promotional events.

    Supervise assigned staff. Involves: Schedule, assign, instruct, guide, and check work. Appraise employee performance. Provide for training and development enforce personnel rules and regulations, and work behavior standards firmly and impartially. Counsel, motivate, and maintain harmony. Interview applicants. Recommend hiring, termination, transfers, discipline, merit pay, or other employee status changes.
    Perform administrative duties. Involves: Compile, edit, and help submit grants in final format. Ensure that expenditures comply with grant or endowment provisions. Evaluate program activities and recommend changes as appropriate. Manage computer database system to maintain accurate and updated member and donor information. Conduct market research to determine needs and evaluate the effectiveness of projects.
