Los Angeles County Public Works is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency
Power Equipment Operator (Non-Tracklaying) vacancies related to the homelessness crisis.
Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.
Before the end of your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.
Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to
Power Equipment Operator (Non-Tracklaying). Essential Job Functions- Operates backhoes, loaders, rollers, and similar machinery in construction or maintenance work.
- Operates a motor grader in grading and road construction and maintenance operations.
- Performs maintenance and construction work in accordance with general plans, layouts, and according to prescribed safety regulations.
- Services and makes operating adjustments and minor repairs in the field.
- Assists in loading and unloading heavy equipment; dismantles and assembles it as necessary.
- May pull or push auxiliary equipment such as blades, discs, plows, scrapers, carry-alls, and similar machinery.
- May drive truck-trailers or tractor-trailers to transport equipment or other material.
- In addition to the tasks shown above, beach sanitizers, wheel rakes, and surf rakes will be used to groom and clean the beaches.
RequirementsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Non-Tracklaying: One year of experience operating non-tracklaying power equipment such as motor graders, rollers, and large wheeled loaders.
LICENSE:A valid and current California Class C Driver License is required to perform job-related essential functions.
A valid and current California Class A or Class B Driver License, and special endorsements to drive assigned vehicles
may be required for some positions in this class.
Successful applicants for positions that require driving must obtain and present a copy of their driver license and driving record from the California State Department of Motor and Vehicles before final appointment. Applicants should not present a copy of their driving history until asked to do so by the hiring department. The County will make an individualized assessment of whether an applicant’s driving history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job. License must not be currently suspended, restricted or revoked.
The County is required to comply with the Federal regulations which require pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to work, follow up, and random urine drug and breath testing of employees who carry commercial driver licenses and who are assigned to drive certain vehicles.
PHYSICAL CLASS:Physical Class III - Moderate: Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
