Job Summary
This position will support the Police Department's specialized equipment and fleet by maintaining, upgrading, troubleshooting, modifying, replacing, and providing end-user training and assistance on related equipment and devices, including in-car technology, specialized camera equipment, automated license plate recognition (ALPR) systems, unmanned aerial surveillance (UAS) equipment, and virtual-reality equipment. Will serve as the liaison with third-party vendors, Fleet Services, and IT on related matters.
Essential Job Functions
• Maintains, upgrades, troubleshoots, modifies, replaces, and provides end-user training and assistance on the use of police equipment, including lights and sirens, body worn cameras, vehicle cameras, computers, computer docks, message board trailers, electronic ticket writers, ALPR equipment, UAS equipment, virtual-reality equipment, and other law enforcement equipment.
• Serves as liaison with Fleet Services regarding vehicle maintenance, recalls, damage repair, and placing new vehicles in service.
• Inspects damaged vehicles for aftermarket equipment needing replacement. Assists with ordering and coordinates installation of replacement equipment. May perform minor aftermarket equipment installation labor.
• Serves as liaison with IT Department for police equipment issues requiring their support. Works with IT staff to determine best course of action to resolve related issues.
• Load all new vehicles with necessary aftermarket equipment to be sent to installation vendor. Inspects all new vehicles prior to placement in service. Performs detailed inspections of all new vehicles prior to placement in service. Coordinates any needed warranty work with vendors.
• Maintains equipment inventory and vehicle key tracking system.
• Serves as a member of the Police Department UAS (Drone) Team. May conduct periodic drone flights as needed. Assists with facilitation of regular Team training events.
• Regular and consistent attendance and punctuality for the assigned work hours is essential.
Minimum Qualifications
• Education: One to two years of related college or technical school courses.
• Experience: 2 years of experience with public safety equipment, UAS-related equipment, automobile computer experience or related.
• Licenses: Possession of or ability to obtain within one year, FAA Part 107 UAS Operator’s License
