    The Position

    Public Service Interns receive training and complete a variety of assignments in staff activities directly relating to their major course of study while enrolled in an educational institution.

    Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.

    This recruitment is for a Public Service Intern 2 position within the Governor's Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) located in Carson City. This position will be a critical support role by assisting The Network Services Unit and the State Chief Data Officer. Under the general direction of the Chief IT Manager for Network Services, the intern will contribute to the creation, enhancement, and maintenance of network documentation, with a particular emphasis on producing high-quality diagrams using Microsoft Visio and AutoCAD to represent physical and logical network configurations. Once completed, the intern will shift to provide documentation support to the State Chief Data Officer, focusing on statewide data governance and analytics initiatives. This will include creating process flow diagrams, conceptual data architecture, and visual representations of policies and workflows to support the emerging statewide data governance framework. Through these dual roles, the intern will gain valuable experience in technical documentation, enterprise IT operations, and data governance, contributing meaningfully to critical state objectives while developing professional skills and competencies.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree related to the field of employment and enrollment and continued successful performance in an academic graduate program related to the field of employment at an accredited college or university. Special Notes Employment is not to exceed six months from the date of graduation. Employment in this class will not lead to permanent status in State service. Special Requirements A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.     The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

    European explorers traveled through Nevada in the early 19th century, but it was not until 1851 that the first settlements were established. An Act of Congress created the Territory of Nevada on March 2, 1861. James W. Nye of New York was appointed Nevada's first Territorial Governor by President Abraham Lincoln later that year. On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
