    Water Commissioner (Hydrology Technician)
    January 10, 2025

    The Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Division of Water Resources is
    seeking qualified applicants for the position of Water Commissioner (Hydrology Technician).
    This is a non-classified, full-time position within the Division of Water Resources located in
    Carson City, Nevada.

    Recruitment: This is an open competitive recruitment, open to all qualified persons.
    Applications will be accepted until recruitment need is satisfied.

    Approximate Annual Salary (DOE):
    Employee/Employer Paid Retirement: $59,257.44 - $87,570.72

    This non-classified position serves at the will of the State Engineer. The position is eligible for
    the State of Nevada Public Employees Benefit Program (PEBP).

    The POSITION: The Hydrology Technician is responsible for reviewing groundwater and surface
    water measurement data for accuracy and completeness and entering the data into databases, as
    well as performing QA/QC on those data. The position will also conduct hydrologic field work,
    including water level measurements, meter readings, and participate in other special projects
    conducted by the Hydrology Section.

    Skills Required: Must be able to work independently and in a team environment. Must be able
    to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public. Must be professional, well
    organized and motivated. Must be willing and able to improve existing skills and develop new
    ones as required by work assignments. Must have a good driving record and be willing to travel
    up to 25% of the work schedule. Must have experience with the Microsoft Office suite of
    desktop applications.

    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in
    engineering, hydrology, physical sciences or closely related field; OR associate degree from an
    accredited college, university or technical school with major course work in engineering,
    engineering technology, GIS, mathematics, physical sciences, or related field and one year of
    technical experience; OR two years of equivalent technical experience.

On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
