Job Summary: This temporary 10-month position from date of hire performs utility locates on all existing water and wastewater, stormwater, City fiber, electrical and traffic facilities. This position works Monday through Friday-7:00 AM-3:30 PM-40-50 hours per week.
The salary range for this position is $25.39- $35.54 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
This position is temporary 10 month max working 40-50 hours per week with Medical coverage option only.
This opportunity will remain open until filled. Essential Functions: - Performs locates of City owned utilities including water, wastewater, stormwater, City fiber, electrical and traffic facilities in an accurate and timely manner, and within required tolerances.
- Reviews incoming Locator Logix platform for locate requests
- Provides accurate and updated field information, using a GPS Receiver, to the GIS team to update system maps.
- Provides customer service, information, and answers questions for the general public, internal staff and other utility owners.
- Provides utility location information.
- Communicates in a timely manner with contractors regarding status of locate tickets.
Other Job Functions: - Ensures compliance with project plans, specifications and the department's standards and national safety codes.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: - High School Graduate or GED required.
- 1 year previous locating experience preferred.
- Some experience in municipality setting preferred.
Certifications: - Valid Driver's License required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Knowledge of the operation of various types of locating equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret utility maps and construction drawings.
- Knowledge of general construction methods.
- Ability to organize and maintain a tightly scheduled workday.
- Ability to interpret digital locate drawings depicting the existing utilities within the proposed digging area.
- Knowledge of safety rules.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions: - Frequent moderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions. Frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 25-50 lbs) and use of medium weight tools.
- Frequent e xposure to heat and noise along with working outside in the elements.
- Occasional exposure to hazards that are predictable or well protected against.
Additional Working Demands / Conditions: - Work is generally performed outside during all types of weather, with excessive noise from machines, jackhammers, cut-off saws, and other equipment.
- Moderate physical activity required by moving and positioning objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently.
- Work may involve pulling, pushing, bending, stooping, and kneeling on a frequent basis and walking, climbing, and working on uneven and slippery surfaces.
- Work performed is manually/physically demanding under unfavorable weather conditions.
- Ability to judge distances and coordinate the use of tools and equipment and hear tones from locating equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with contractors and engineering staff in the form of written inspection reports and notification letter.
- Ability to be creative, use good judgment, and handle stressful situations.
