    DEPARTMENT OF MENTAL HEALTH

    INTERDEPARTMENTAL TRANSFER OPPORTUNITY

    RESTRICTED TO PERMANENT EMPLOYEES OF THE COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES

    PATIENTS’ RIGHTS OFFICE

    Mental Health Services Coordinator I or II

    Patients’ Rights Office (PRO) provides advocacy to patients in LPS designated facilities and prepare the patients for their certification review hearings. Advocates investigate and respond to grievances/complaints about inpatient and outpatient mental health providers. The program is located at 510 S. Vermont Ave., Los Angeles, 90020. A 9/80 work schedule is available.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Provide representation to mental health clients at Certification Review Hearings and Riese Medication Capacity Hearings.
    • Gather and analyze information relevant to the hearings.
    • Interview patient to represent them accurately.
    • Inform patient of their rights while being detained involuntarily.
    • Conduct investigations and provide a resolution of consumers' grievances from outpatient clinics, inpatient psychiatric hospitals and IMD facilities.
    • Retrieve written and electronic medical notes and obtain data relevant to the investigation.
    • Analyze potential solutions or improvements.
    • Make determinations which consider potential risks.
    • Serve as 'on duty' advocate, providing telephone coverage during work hours for handling complaints and responding to inquiries from consumers and their families.


    Requirements

    REQUIREMENTS:

    Permanent County of Los Angeles employees currently holding the payroll title of Mental Health Services Coordinator I or II.

    DESIREABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Experience with Certification Review Hearings.
    • Experience with investigation of grievances and complaints.
    • Experience working in DMH or Legal Entity clinics.
