    The Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner-Public Administrator's Office is offering excellent opportunities for motivated individuals who are seeking a career opportunity as an Identification Technician I. TheIdentification Technician I is responsible for fingerprinting, photographing, and collecting DNA from inmates; fingerprinting job seekers and the public for background checks, and locating warrants connected with inmates and confirming identity matches.
    Note : The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill both permanent and extra-help positions. Individuals selected for extra-help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by the Fresno County Personnel Rules.
    APPLICANTS MUST BE WILLING TO WORK SHIFTS AS ASSIGNED INCLUDING NIGHTS, WEEKENDS, AND HOLIDAYS.
    As a condition of employment, candidates must undergo and pass a polygraph or Computer Voice Stress Analysis examination and a thorough background investigation (background materials for failed candidates are retained for three years). Background investigations include employment/credit histories, arrest/criminal records, drug/alcohol use, and personal conduct. This list is neither inclusive nor exclusive; other relevant areas may be investigated and verified.
    Positions in this classification are in Medical Group II - Moderate Physical Activity (Personnel Rule 8). This group includes positions which require moderate physical effort using arms, legs, back, and trunk in frequent lifting, pushing or pulling of objects weighing (or offering resistance equivalent to) 10-25 pounds, and occasionally over 25 pounds. Generally, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, as well as standing and walking are involved.
    Fresno County Detention Facilities are "no-hostage" facilities. This means that in the event you are taken hostage, the County will not bargain for your safe release.

    Minimum Qualifications Applicants must qualify under one (1) of the options listed below:
    OPTION 1:
    Experience : One (1) year of full-time, paid work experience with a criminal justice agency.
    OPTION 2:
    Education : Completion of thirty (30) semester units of coursework that is acceptable within the United States' accredited college or university system. At least fifteen (15) of the required semester units must be in Criminology, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or a closely related field.
    Note : Incumbents must obtain and maintain Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Department of Justice (DOJ) clearance as a condition of employment.

    SELECTION PROCESS:
    Depending upon the number of applicants meeting the minimum qualifications and filing requirements, applicants may be scheduled for one of the processes listed below:
    • Online Examination - The written examination will be offered in an online format. Please indicate on the supplemental questionnaire if you have the ability to complete an online examination.
    • Certify Without Examination - In instances where the number of eligible candidates is less than or equal to the number of qualified applicants the Department is entitled to receive under Personnel Rule 4212, the competitive examination process will be waived and the names will be certified without an examination.
    Successful candidates will be placed on an employment list effective for a minimum of 3 months (may be extended up to 12 months) and certified in final rank order as vacancies occur.
