  • Job Description

    Description

    Performs technical evaluations of vehicle parts, components, and mechanical/electrical systems and manages the Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) in support of Inventory Control and Materiel Planning.

    Examples of Duties

    • Maintains asset management data updates and any other changes
    • Reviews, validates, and corrects technical data on item catalog records
    • Develops, maintains, updates, and publishes useful, reliable electronic documentation for the electronic parts catalog (EPC) to ensure useful, accurate, and effective receipt and inspection of parts and equipment
    • Resolves exceptions and other issues related to material receipts
    • Develops and maintains unit procedural documentation
    • Develops and administers the Quality Receiving and Inspection process
    • Interprets manufacturer and vendor data for specifications and fitment
    • Evaluates information received from manufacturers and Metro users, determines appropriate content, and prepares and applies updates to the EPC
    • Identifies and plans parts needs for rail and bus fleets, including appropriate stocking quantities
    • Reviews the accuracy and integrity of all EPC data
    • Edits EPC pages using content editor software
    • Enhances the usefulness of the EPC by including maintenance cycles, patterns, and procedures
    • Identifies opportunities to reduce the expense and improve the availability of the revenue vehicle parts inventory
    • Coordinates with Inventory staff to update and improve EPC records and resolve parts quality problems
    • Resolves issues with internal and external clients
    • Represents department management in technical meetings
    • Provides guidance and assistance to new or entry-level employees
    • Travels to divisions to provide technical support and evaluate EPC problems
    • Travels to manufacturer sites to assist in initial EPC development
    • Contributes to ensuring that the EEO (Equal Employment Opportunity) policies and programs of Metro are carried out

    Minimum Qualifications

    A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:

    Education
    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Business, or a related field

    Experience
    • Five years of relevant experience operating a computerized parts database, including experience supporting the repair and maintenance of transit vehicle systems; some positions in this class may require specialized experience in area of assignment

    Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements
    • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions


    Essential Knowledge

    Knowledge of(defined as a learned body of information that is required for and applied in the performance of job tasks)
    • Theories, principles, and practices of inventory management
    • Transit vehicle systems, components, and parts
    • Transit vehicle maintenance patterns and frequencies
    • Principles and procedures of quality receiving and inspection
    • Other transit related part items such as, but not limited to, chemicals, material safety data sheets, custodial, and maintenance of way

    Skill in(defined as the proficient manual, verbal, or mental utilization of data, people, or things)
    • Utilizing asset management software
    • Maintaining Electronic Parts Catalog
    • Compiling, interpreting, and analyzing data both in writing and drawings
    • Recognizing and evaluating problems, developing effective recommendations, and implementing solutions
    • Communicating with others effectively orally and in writing
    • Interacting professionally and effectively with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives
    • Applicable computer software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite

    Ability to(defined as a present competence to perform an observable behavior or produce an observable result)
    • Comprehend manufacturer parts descriptions
    • Edit an electronic data base using content editor software
    • Understand and resolve the needs of EPC users
    • Prioritize work and projects
    • Complete projects on time and within budget
    • Prepare reports and correspondence
    • Travel to offsite locations
    • Read, write, speak, and understand English
