    The Position

    The Board of Supervisors have authorized the following future salary increases:

    5% on July 1, 2025

    Contra Costa County was incorporated in 1850 as one of the original 27 counties of the State of California. It is one of nine counties in the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Area and covers approximately 733 square miles extending from the northeastern shore of San Francisco Bay easterly about 50 miles to San Joaquin County. The County has one of the State’s most heterogeneous populations, rich in ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic diversity. With a current population of more than 1.1 million, Contra Costa County is the ninth most populous county in California.

    Contra Costa Health is looking to fill one (1) Accountant III vacancy in the Behavioral Health division. While the focus of this recruitment is to fill the one vacancy in Contra Costa Health, the resulting eligible list may be used to fill vacancies in other departments as they open up.

    What you will typically be responsible for:
    • Preparing and reviewing journal vouchers, transfer of funds, and other financial documents
    • Collaborating with Program Managers to develop and monitor the annual budget
    • Responsible for reporting in an accurate, thorough, and timely manner for various internal and external reports
    • Preparing annual budget and year-end close
    • Reviewing and tracking provider risk assessments and audited financial statements
    • Preparing various stakeholder and State reports and schedules
    • Preparing cost reconciliation schedules
    • Reviewing and analyzing financial transactions and balances for accuracy

    The eligible list established from this recruitment may remain in effect for 6 months to fill any future vacancies in the County Departments that utilize this classification.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education:1) Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, finance, accounting or a closely related field, which must have included at least 12 semester or 18 quarter units from among the following accounting courses: Principles of Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Advanced Accounting, Governmental Accounting, Fund Accounting, Cost Accounting, or Auditing; or 2) Possession of an Certified Public Accountant Certificate.

    Internal Substitution for Education: Incumbency in the class of Accountant II for Contra Costa County may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree.

    Experience: Thirty (30) months of full-time, or its equivalent, increasingly responsible professional accounting experience.

    Selection Process

    Application Filing and Evaluation: Applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application, applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.

    Online Multiple-Choice Assessment: An online, multiple-choice assessment will be administered to all accepted candidates. This Assessment will measure job-related competencies, including but not limited to: Professional & Technical Expertise, Analyzing & Interpreting Data, Mathematical Facility, Attention to Detail, Reading Comprehension, Writing, Using Technology, Building & Maintaining Relationships, Self-Management, Teamwork, Driving Results, and Leadership. (Weighted 100%)

    Final Selection Interviews: Tentatively scheduled for mid-February.

    TENTATIVE EXAMINATION DATES

    Online Multiple-Choice Assessment: January 30 - February 4, 2025

    DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

    All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
