The Position
Engineering Technicians perform a broad range of duties involving technical engineering work in support of professional engineers including drafting, engineering calculations, surveying, materials and soils testing, construction inspection, roadway design, right-of-way engineering, planning, permitting and inspection, water rights appropriation and land acquisition in support of civil or related professional engineering work. Work requires the application of technical engineering skills, methods and practices in compiling technical data, drafting, computer aided software, operating specialized equipment and preparing engineering related documents.
Under general direction, incumbents function independently at the advanced journey level performing technical work requiring knowledge of engineering theories, principles, concepts and practices in a specialized area..
This position is with the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection's Bureau of Water Pollution Control within the Technical Services, Compliance, and Enforcement (TCE) Branch located in the Carson City office. Primary duties include to review and assessment of discharge monitoring reporting data that is submitted for the discharge permits in the BWPC program, which will include the review of lab data, evaluating data trends, and tracking exceedances of permitted parameters; working with engineering staff to gain facility compliance; oversee the processing and review for completeness of all civil improvement plans and subdivision maps; assist engineers in the technical review of subdivision maps, and track all documentation to ensure guidelines are met, and ensure State and federal regulations, policies and procedures are followed. Additional duties include writing violations and non-compliance notices for discharge monitoring reports, compile monitoring data, issue approval and denial letters for subdivisions, correspond with permittees, contractors, and developers, use BWPC and EPA online databases. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering, physics, math or closely related field and two years of experience in a specialized engineering function or program area which involved the application of work procedures, standards and controls; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements This position requires a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. Show moreThe presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.
European explorers traveled through Nevada in the early 19th century, but it was not until 1851 that the first settlements were established. An Act of Congress created the Territory of Nevada on March 2, 1861. James W. Nye of New York was appointed Nevada's first Territorial Governor by President Abraham Lincoln later that year. On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.
Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
The Nevada Legislature has honored the State's natural resources and cultural heritage with a variety of State designations described below.
