Then serving as a Senior Accounting Assistant within the Treasurer - Tax Collector’s office may be the position for you.
The Treasurer-Tax Collector’s office is comprised of a successful team of dedicated professionals and has two divisions: Property Taxes and the County Treasury. The property tax division is responsible for the collection of over $350M in annual property taxes along with other revenues to help a variety of public agencies meet their financial goals. The Treasury division manages the County Treasury pool of $400M and accepts deposits for all County departments, school districts, and special districts, and ensures accurate payment and reconciliation of approved check disbursements and wire transfers while ensuring there are adequate funds to cover liquidity needs of the County Treasury. This is an advanced-level position where individuals perform a wide range of duties in the processing and maintenance of financial and tax related records along with providing exceptional customer service to our community and County Departments.
Vital duties of this position include:- Handling of monetary transactions (cash and checks) including posting transactions for customers and issuing receipts
- Interfacing with the public over the telephone, in person, and through email correspondence
- Researching a variety of complex tax records and calculating tax amounts owed
- Maintaining detailed records and compiling appropriate backup to support accounting entries
- Reconciliation of tax and treasury accounts using spreadsheets including Microsoft Excel
- Monitor departmental contracts and process accounts payable for the department; may also assist with budget preparation and ongoing monitoring of departmental revenue and expenditure budget.
A Senior Accounting Assistant is an integral part of the County's team whose mission is to support the Treasurer - Tax Collector department by maintaining accurate records, recording transactions, and balancing accounts! This position is crafted for individuals who have graduated from high school and have two years of experience performing duties comparable to those of Nevada County's classification of Accounting Assistant II. No college degree is required but if you have taken a few courses in accounting or a related field, that's a plus along with recent cash handling experience!
