    The Position

    Bargaining Unit: Local 2700 - General Clerical Unit
    We are currently recruiting to fill two (2) Spanish Translator vacancies in the Employment and Human Services Department.

    Spanish Translators provide verbal, reading and writing translation or interpreting services as requested in Spanish. In this class Translators assist staff with clients who receive or apply for services from the Employment and Human Services Department. While the primary responsibility of incumbents in this class is providing translation and interpreting services, they may occasionally perform routine clerical tasks as directed.

    What you will typically be responsible for:
    • Verbal translation of information to and from internal & external staff
    • Translation of written documents verbally, in the lobby or at reception windows as needed
    • Writing correspondence in a foreign language (Spanish) to clients as directed
    • Translation of forms and documents
    • Performing clerical tasks and other related duties as required

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education: Possession of high school diploma, G.E.D. equivalency or high school proficiency certificate.

    Experience: One (1) year of full-time experience providing Spanish interpreting or translation services in a human service program, school environment, and/or business utilizing skills to speak, read and/or write fluently translating from English into Spanish and Spanish into English.

    Desirable Qualifications:
    • Experience working in an environment that required you to convey sensitive or complex case information.


    Selection Process

    1. Application Filing and Evaluation: Applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application, applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.
    2. Online Multiple-Choice Test: Candidates who clearly demonstrate that they possess the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in an online test. You will need access to a computer with a reliable internet connection to participate in the assessment. This multiple-choice test will assess candidates on the required competencies and technical skills. (Weighted: 100%)
    3. Hiring Interview: TBD

    The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.

    CONVICTION HISTORY


    After you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).     DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

    All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
