    We are searching for a team member who is:
    • Highly motivated and enjoys assisting dedicated engineers pushing forward Information Technology in the public sector for the purpose of improving the services we deliver to our residents.
    • Diligent in performing information systems tasks needed to keep our services and organization running, and willing and able to provide solutions to common user or system related issues.


    Essential Job Functions

    Work in conjunction with professional IT engineers to ensure that our organization's efforts for community improvement continues uninterrupted by:

    • Providing support to systems customers and/or departmental staff for a variety of IT-related issues including the identifying, tracking, documenting, researching, and resolving of basic problem calls.
    • Serving as a liaison between field staff and centralized IT staff by addressing inquiries, providing instructions and furnishing written materials, forms, and policies and procedures related to departmental and County IT systems.
    • Responding to reported desktop related connectivity problems such as issuing or resetting customer passwords.
    • Supporting IT professionals by performing routine systems testing, including validating user manuals, procedures, and other instructional materials.
    • Assisting in documenting Help Desk calls that require higher level research and investigation.
    • Extracting and summarizing report data; compiling statistics, analyzing data, and preparing reports for management.
    • Coordinating IT training scheduling for departmental staff as needed.
    • Assisting in IT technical training of departmental users as needed.
    • Acting as lead to Information Technology Aides and other clerical personnel as needed.
    • Assisting in the installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of IT devices including personal computers, video display terminals, printers, cabling and other hardware as needed.

    Requirements

    Requirements to Qualify
    One (1) year of experience, within the last five (5) years, providing assistance to professional information technology staff - AND - providing routine customer information systems related tasks in a centralized IT organization.*

    *A unit or department that provides comprehensive IT services such as analysis, design, acquisition, development, implementation, maintenance, and/or support of information systems, under the direction of the organization’s Chief IT official.

    Acceptable Los Angeles County classes include, but may not be limited to: Veteran Intern, Information Technology Support; Computer System Operator; Computer Operator Specialist; or Computer Systems Schedule r II.

    License
    A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

    Physical class
    2 - Light. This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

    Additional Information

    Examination content
    Consists of TWO (2) multiple choice and/or simulation assessment parts:

    Part I - weighted 80% and covers:
    • General Problem Solving Skills
    • Service Orientation
    • Issue Resolution
    • Attentiveness
    • Navigation
    • Accurate Typing
    • Achievement
    • Learning Potential
    Part II - weighted 20% and covers Knowledge of Information Technology Service Desk Skills (Troubleshooting, Start-Up Problems, Optimization, Network, etc.).

    Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on Part I in order to have Part II scored and calculated.

    We do not allow review of this exam under Civil Service Rule 7.19.

    Transfer of scores
    If you recently took identical components for other exams, the test responses may be automatically transferred to this examination. This exam contains test components that might be used on future exams, and your responses could be transferred to that exam.

    Test preparation
    We provide study guides and other test preparation resources to help candidates prepare for employment tests. While the guides may help in preparing for the test, we recommend reviewing all related materials that seem necessary.

    Eligibility and Vacancy Information
    Candidates who passed the assessment are placed on a list in the order of their score group for a period of six (6) months. We will use this list to fill vacancies as they occur.

    Veteran's Credit
    If you are a veteran, you may be eligible for veteran’s credit, which is an additional 10% of the total points added to a passing score. We will need a copy of your form DD214 to review, so please include that with your application or email it to the exam analyst at KTy@hr.lacounty.gov within 7 calendar days from the last date of application filing.
