    The Position

    Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.

    Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

    This recruitment will be used to underfill a Staff 3 Professional Engineer position on C915 in District 1, Las Vegas Construction. This position is located in Las Vegas. The incumbent will work under the direction of the Manager 1, Resident Engineer with the administration of assigned construction contracts, supervision of a construction crew, train, and motivate subordinates, and managing of fleet and equipment. The incumbent will assist the Manager I in representing the Department in public dealings, recognizing and resolving construction problems, and managing a construction office and field laboratory. The incumbent will assist in negotiation of change orders and promoting project and crew safety. Professional Engineers plan, coordinate and oversee projects, programs and consultant contracts/agreements and perform licensed professional engineering functions. Incumbents function as Staff who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives. This position will require long periods of sitting, standing, and lifting up to 50lbs., driving State vehicles and working outdoors in extreme weather conditions. Must be able to walk up and down steep slopes and on uneven terrain.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Notes Employees in this class who are not registered professional engineers may not represent themselves as such to other persons or entities. Special Requirements Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
