    THE CITY OF WACO SEEKS:

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Required:
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • One year of customer service and clerical experience.
    • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
    • Specific technical training and certifications are required.
      • National/Texas Crime Information Centers (NCIC/TCIC) within six months from date of hire. (this required training is provided in-house)
      • Depending on the needs of the City, additional licenses and certifications may be required.
    Must complete Police Department Background Packet (the packet will be sent on 1/6/2025 after the position closes)Must be able to pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) background screening. Must be able to pass a polygraph. Applicants must be able to pass the following tests if selected to move forward:
    • Typing test - 40wpm minimum
    • Office Grammar & Spelling - 70% minimum

    Position Overview
    Under basic supervision, processes Waco Police Department (WPD) report requests, enters data into secure computer databases, performs research, and provides information within the scope of authority.

    Position Responsibilities
    • Performs basic clerical duties in accordance with WPD policy and procedures, including data entry, record keeping and preparing and processing documents; duties may vary according to job assignment.
    • Transcribes and processes Officer reports, processes information requests and maintains files and database records; assists customers with payments, reports, applications, and technical documents.
    • Processes a variety of public records and requests; answers inquiries and explains policies and procedures; provides information and assistance within scope of authority.

    Governance and Organization

    Waco is a home rule city with a council-manager form of government. The City Council is comprised of a Mayor, elected at-large, and five City Council members representing single-member districts, all serving two-year terms. The City Council sets the tax rate, approves the budget, appoints members to City boards and commissions, enacts City ordinances, and appoints the City Manager, City Attorney, City Secretary, and the Municipal Court Judge.

    The City has a strong Financial Management Policy that guides the operation and delivery of quality City services, contributes to excellent AA+ and Aa1 bond ratings, and maintains an unassigned fund balance reserve in the General Fund equal to 28% of current year budgeted expenditures. The City of Waco has more than 1,600 employees and a total operating budget of over $400 million.

    The City provides a full range of municipal services including a regional airport, animal services, building inspections, code enforcement, convention and visitors bureau, emergency management, housing and community development, economic development, fire, public health, library, municipal court, parks and recreation, planning, police, public works, Texas Ranger Hall of Fame Museum, utilities and zoo operations.
