    The Position

    Transportation Technicians perform a variety of technical duties related to traffic and roadway characteristics on State highways; install traffic monitoring devices; perform minor repairs on traffic control and monitoring equipment, and compile and maintain detailed records and information.

    This position is located in Carson City. Under general supervision, incumbent will travel within Nevada to collect data. The incumbent will be primarily assigned to the Fuel Tax auditing program and collect data on various roads and then assist in the upload and processing of collected data in the office. This position will also participate in the data coding, compilation, processing and summarization for the State Road Inventory, Fuel Tax Eligible Road Audit and Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) programs; data is collected primarily through laptop computers using GPS (Global Positioning System) and DMI (Distance Measuring Instrument). NOTE: THIS RECRUITMENT MAY BE USED TO UNDERFILL A TRANSPORTATION TECHNICIAN II. INCUMBENT MAY PROGRESS TO THE NEXT LEVEL AFTER MEETING THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE, AND WITH APPROVAL OF THE APPOINTING AUTHORITY. The incumbent will also conduct data collection in the Road Video and LiDAR vehicle, which can include operating the collection system or driving the vehicle for collection. The incumbent will be responsible for entering the data collected into ESRI (NDOT's geospatial program) and maintain an acceptable proficiency level established by the agency; required to meet with City and County program managers to schedule and attend inventory and finalize close out meetings; participate in in-office and field training; requires effective written and verbal skills, teamwork, responsiveness, and judgement. Perform related duties as assigned. Travel will be required at least 50% and up to 75% of the time throughout Nevada for this position.

    To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of general labor or semi-skilled experience which included the operation of tools and equipment and/or responsibility for a delivery route requiring the operation of a vehicle and determining locations of delivery sites. Special Requirements A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. This position requires travel statewide, one week at a time, up to 50% of the time. As a condition of employment, pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must first submit to a pre-employment screening test for controlled substances. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
