What is the Job? The Rescue/Foster Coordinator will play a key role in helping to grow our rescue partner/foster network and capabilities by establishing lasting relationships with our partners and fosters. This position will assist with the oversight and management of the rescue partner and foster programs to move an animal from the shelter system into a loving, temporary home or rescue partner. Pairing animals with foster families or rescue partners is rewarding on several levels.
The ideal candidate has ability and initiative to effectively work, both independently and in a team environment, in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressures. The individual will be proficient with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook to process and organize data.
The individual will have the ability to de-escalate difficult conversations using professional verbal and written communication, meet deadlines using time management skills, and assist rescue partners/fosters with difficult situations using problem-solving skills. This candidate is a self-starter with great attention to detail and can use social media marketing creatively to get our animals to a rescue partner or foster. This person must be comfortable handling and walking large dogs.

Driving Requirement: - This position requires a Valid Texas Class C Drivers License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months. Job Offer is contingent on having a driving record that meets the City’s Driver Record Evaluation Standards.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned. Select shelter animals for foster/rescue program and coordinate their transfer, transport, ongoing care and disposition. Recruit, qualify and orient rescue partners. Recruit, orient and monitor volunteer foster parents and provide training and resources on appropriate animal care and handling of fostered animals. Accurately maintain all required records in the shelter’s database in a timely manner. Ensure compliance of program participants with all policies and laws and in support of the shelter’s mission and goals. Safely and humanely handle and/or restrain animals, including those of unknown health and temperament. Contribute to the organization’s marketing and promotion efforts. Comply with all city policies, and procedures. Contribute to the programs and services that support the shelter’s live outcome goal.
