    The Job

    The Public Works Department is recruiting for a Public Works Operations Supervisor who plan, direct, and supervise work crews involved in the construction, maintenance, repair and inspection of roads, flood control channels, landfill facilities, and landscaping projects.

    Essential duties include:

    • Inspecting prospective job sites and landfill operations
    • Directing work crews to perform road striping and painting, sidewalk, ramp, and road repair
    • Directing the work of equipment operators in the excavation and grading of flood channels, basins, and levees
    • Investigating and correcting hazardous conditions such as sand, debris, and snow removal from roads
    • Interact with the public and other agencies and investigate constituent concerns or complaints
    • Assigning and evaluating work, writing employee evaluations, conducting investigations of incidents

    The list established from this recruitment will be used to fill a vacancy for the Joshua Tree yard only.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Availability: Incumbents are subject to periodic after hour and emergency calls.

    Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of liability insurance must be produced and maintained during the course of employment.

    Physical: Frequent sitting, standing; occasional walking, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, crawling, turning, balancing; requires power and precision grasping.

    Work Conditions: Frequently exposed to electricity, chemicals, fire, heat, oil, odors, dust, gas, hazardous materials, and noise. Works on rough and uneven terrain, and exposure to extreme temperature or humidity.

    Minimum Requirements

    EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of full-time equivalent experience in the maintenance or construction of roadways or flood control facilities, or landfill facilities which includes two (2) years of full-scope supervision directing and supervising the work of equipment operators and construction workers. (NOTE: Lead work experience and building construction experience will not be considered qualifying.)

    Desired Qualifications

    Landfill Facilities Positions: The ideal candidate for landfill facilities will have a familiarity with applicable regulatory guidelines and at least four (4) years of qualifying supervisory experience in landfill operations or scale operations.
