The Job
San Bernardino County Library System is a highly interactive and fast-paced customer service environment. The Needles Branch is recruiting for a Library Associate, who will oversee and supervise a small branch library and assigned staff, to include evaluating services, conducting staff meetings, and establishing work schedules and assignments. Library Associates further evaluate community needs, and plan and conduct a variety of outreach and special interest programs to encourage library usage. Additional duties include instructing patrons and staff in the use of online resources, providing readers advisory services, assisting patrons in the use of the library collection and services, advising patrons on branch policies and resources, and evaluating and weeding collections for currency of material and condition.
The resulting eligible list will be used to fill current and future vacancies at the Needles Branch only . Needles lies on the western banks of the Colorado River in the Mohave Valley subregion of the Mojave Desert, near the borders of Arizona and Nevada. Needles is located approximately 215 miles/3.5 hours east of San Bernardino.

FUTURE SALARY INCREASES

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, applicants must undergo a background check, which includes fingerprinting and a medical exam.
Work Schedule: These positions are full-time and require regular weekend and evening work schedules.
Location: The current vacancy exists at the Needles Branch Library. Applicants that select they are available for the Needles location and refuse a job offer or waive an interview based on location will be removed from the eligibility list.
Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required. Employees will be required to make provision for transportation. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced for the individual providing the transportation, and must be maintained throughout employment.
Physical Requirements: Physical requirements of the position include the following: frequent reaching and bending; continuous walking and standing; continuous pushing and pulling; constant lifting of material and books up to 25 pounds and frequent lifting up to 75 pounds.

Minimum Requirements
Candidates must meet ONE (1) of the requirement options.
OPTION 1:
EDUCATION: A completed Associate's degree or sixty (60) semester/ninety (90) quarter units from an accredited college or university.
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year full-time equivalent experience in a customer service related industry, such as a library, retail store, or restaurant, which involves substantial public contact on a constant basis.
OPTION 2:
EDUCATION: A completed Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
EXPERIENCE: Six (6) months full-time equivalent experience in a customer service related industry, such as a library, retail store, or restaurant, which involves substantial public contact on a constant basis.
OPTION 3:
EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years full-time equivalent experience in a customer service related industry, such as a library, retail store, or restaurant, which involves substantial public contact on a constant basis.
Note: Qualifying degrees must be completed at a college or university accredited by an accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. In addition, degrees completed outside of the U.S. must be accompanied by an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service indicating equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at the college or university accredited by an accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.

Experience using computers and cash handling skills are highly desirable. The ideal candidate will have a passion for serving youth; experience creating, implementing, and monitoring a wide array of programs; and possess strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills.
