The mission of the City's Retirement Services Department is to provide quality services in the delivery of pension and related benefits and maintain financially sound pension plans.
The Office of Retirement Services (ORS) oversees the investment of assets and administers the benefits of the two Defined Benefit Retirement Plans for City of San Jose employees. The assets of the two plans total over $6 billion. As of June 30, 2024, there were over 6,400 retirees and beneficiaries, and over 5,100 active employees in the two retirement plans. Each of the retirement plans has a Board of Administration that has fiduciary responsibility over their respective retirement plan. http://www.sjretirement.comPosition DutiesThe Office of Retirement Services (ORS) is recruiting to fill Accountant I/II position to assist with the issuance of monthly benefit retirement payments and general ledger maintenance within the Accounting Division. This position will report to the Division Manager.
The salary ranges for the Accountant I/II classification are:
- Accountant I: $88,015.20 - $107,059.68
- Accountant II: $96,074.16 - $116,778.48
These salary ranges include an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.
The position to be filled is in the Accounting Group, as a member of a 6-person team, which will report to the Accounting Division Manager. Job duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Accounts payable invoices for professional services and investment managers - ensure in accordance with contract and recalculate investment fees
- Analysis and preparation of monthly Board expenses
- Analysis and preparation of quarterly Budget to Actual reports
- Analysis of actual expenses vs. estimates
- Investment cash projections
- Salary reconciliation and reclassification
- Contribution wires
- Review general ledger for proper classifications
- Pension Gold bank reconciliation
- Monthly expense projection and wires
- Completion of monthly retiree benefit payments for one of the plans
- Special research projects and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Accountant I :Education: Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Accounting or related field, which must include twelve (12) semester units in accounting subjects.
Acceptable Substitution : Experience in the maintenance of financial records, systems or transactions may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. There will be no substitution for the twelve (12) semester units in accounting subjects.
Accountant II :Education: Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Accounting or related field, which must include eighteen (18) semester units in accounting subjects.
Experience: Two (2) years of progressively responsible accounting or auditing experience.
