Our agency works with Colusa County residents in administering social services programs including Cal Works, Cal-Fresh, Medi-Cal, In-home Supportive Services (IHSS), Adult and Children’s Services, Public Health and Housing.     Selection Procedure
    The following is a tentative schedule of events that will occur as part of the selection process:
    • Applications will be accepted from December 13, 2024, through December 20, 2024.
    • Screening for minimum qualifications.
    • Bilingual Exams. This position requires the ability to speak, read and write Spanish in addition to English. Applicants will be required to pass a proficiency exam.

    What's this Job All About?
    As an Office Assistant, you will be the face or voice representing the Department of Health & Human Services as the first point of contact for community members, both in person and by phone. You will greet and assist customers in person and by phone, fielding inquiries, addressing complaints, and gathering information to direct customers to the appropriate staff for further assistance. You will perform structured and repetitive tasks such as filing, reviewing forms and electronic files, entering data, and performing other specialized work as assigned. Bilingual Office Assistants in the Department of Health & Human Services also provide translation assistance and general support to the agency.

    Supervision & Examples of Duties

    Office Assistant I

    Receives general supervision from supervisory or management staff.

    Office Assistant II

    Receives general supervision from supervisory or management staff.

    May exercise functional and technical supervision over lower level clerical staff.

    Qualifications

    Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

    Office Assistant I

    Experience:

    Six (6) months of administrative/clerical experience.

    Training:

    Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.

    Office Assistant II

    Experience:

    Three years of responsible clerical experience which included public contact/customer service.

    Training :
    Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. Supplemental coursework or training in business administration or clerical is highly desired .

    Supplemental Information

    SALARY: (based on a 37.5-hour work week)
    Office Assistant I $2,778 - $4,341
    Office Assistant II $2,920 - $4,793


    The salary range above consists of 15 steps. Steps 1-6 are annual merit steps with approximately 5% difference between each step, based on successful performance. Steps 7-15 are additional merit steps, requiring 2 years of satisfactory performance at the previous step. Steps 7-14 provide 2.5% increases, while Step 15 offers a 5% increase. The final salary offered will depend on the applicant's experience and qualifications, ranging from steps 1 to 15.

    The County of Colusa, nestled in the heart of the Sacramento Valley approximately 60 miles north of Sacramento and 100 miles northeast of the San Francisco Bay Area, is a vibrant community rich in history and tradition and, offering a wonderful environment in which to live, work and play.  The County, with approximately 22,000 residents, includes two incorporated cities; Colusa, which is the county seat, and Williams.  The local economy is largely agriculturally based producing crops valued at more than $900 million each year and exporting farm commodities throughout the United States and to about seventy countries worldwide.
