    Austin Energy (AE) seeks an IT Solutions Architect position that will provide 24×7 support enterprise-wide architecture and integration of highly complex, highly reliable systems, under minimal supervision, using expert skills and current knowledge of information system technologies while being able to contribute to daily operations, maintenance & installations to support Department based critical systems.

    The primary duties of the position:

    • Implement, configure, manage, administer, maintain and monitor software and hardware for entire Department affecting Systems. AIX & Linux administration.
    • Research, Test, evaluate, and make recommendations for new software and hardware technology.
    • Troubleshoot advanced systems/topologies/networks/storage and support critical customers in a utility environment.

    TRAVEL :
    If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program , you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

    ESSENTIAL :
    This has been designated as an Essential Employee position. In the event of a city-designated emergency, Essential Employees provide services that impact the public health, safety, utility services, and welfare of members of the Austin community and other employees and ensure the continuity of essential operations. In such an emergency, Essential Employees may be called back in, may be required to modify their schedule, may be assigned to a City-designated work site, or may be retained on site to assist with operations and recovery.
    Pay Range
    $39.49 - $51.34 per hour

    Work Schedule/Notes:
    • Monday - Friday.
    • 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. - 40 Hour Work Week.
    • Additional work hours may be required to support the 24-hour Utility operations, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, inclement weather and emergency closures.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience deploying, managing, and troubleshooting a distributed AIX or Linux environment (servers/clients)
    • Experience with networking in an enterprise-wide environment with complex Layer 2/3 networks and working with complex emerging and evolving technology and vendors.
    • Experience in designing and managing within an enterprise monitored environment.
    • Experience with server/client application monitoring tools (i.e., Dynatrace, CA Wily APM )
    • Familiarity with integrated converged infrastructure technologies
    • Experience with installing and managing vMotion and Live Partition Mobility
    • Experience working in a public, government or similarly regulated organization.


    Other:
    • Ability to travel to more than one work location.
    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

    Promotes digital business initiatives and identifies potential impact on the City’s critical financial metrics and economic architectures. Supports business and technology innovation that drives the City’s objectives. Engages key business stakeholders and product managers to facilitate both strategy and innovation planning. Collaborates with stakeholders involved in digital strategy and digital innovation to develop an IT investment roadmap. Creates deliverables that illustrate how to strategically move the business forward. Works with enterprise architects and key organizational stakeholders to define a strategic plan for leveraging integrated architecture as part of the enterprise architecture. Participates in enterprise strategy development, including environmental analysis, opportunity identification, value cases and business innovation portfolio development. Provides strategic consultation to product managers in defining or designing business capabilities, processes, functions and organizational structures, as well as in researching, identifying and internally marketing, selling and enabling technologies based on business and end-user requirements. Participates in enterprise architecture development, including business architecture, information architecture, application portfolio and technical architecture, and champions the balance of flexibility and risk. Facilitates agreement on organizational work models and processes to meet business requirements. Seeks ways to apply new technology to, and reuse existing technology for, business processes. Researches and provides information on technical trends and competitors’ practices relevant to assigned products and value streams.

    City Government
