    What You'll Be Doing

    Wake County Child Welfare currently serves over 700 children in our foster care system. Child Protective Services (CPS) is responsible for protecting children and enhancing their overall well-being by supporting and strengthening families. The Child Welfare division has three federally mandated goals. The first goal is safety - children will be protected from harm from child abuse and neglect. The second goal is permanence - children entering foster care will be reunited with family or placed in a new permanent home as quickly as possible. The third goal is well-being - the educational, health, and overall well-being of children in foster care or receiving Child Protective Services In-Home Services will be enhanced. Federal, state, and local policy dictate that Child Welfare seeks to accomplish these three goals by supporting and strengthening families.

    Essential Functions:
    • Assist with the task of assigning A/N/D reports to CPS social workers daily by reading the reports and consulting with the manager when necessary
    • Ensure required documentation is signed appropriately and timely and uploaded into OnBase, and ensure social workers are knowledgeable regarding current and revised policies, protocols, statues, etc
    • Ensures that social workers area assigning the appropriate risk level based on the care parents/caretakers provide for their children when a new repot is initiated and throughout the life of the case, ensure social workers grow by having them attend mandatory trainings throughout the year for the county and state
    • Conducts weekly meetings with the CPS assessors and semimonthly meetings with the in-home workers to staff cases for guidance and case decisions

    The acceptable candidate must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive to various locations to visit families and maintain appointments.

    The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

    • Masters degree in Social Work (MSW)
    • Three years experience in counseling or social work
    • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

    Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

    • A Master's degree in Social Work or equivalent education and experience combination is accepted
    • At least 3 years of experience supervising in Child Welfare and/or Five (5) or more years in Child Protective Services (Intake, Assessments, In-Home and/or After-Hours)
    • Three years’ experience supervising staff, have experience doing home visits with the following communities: mental health, juvenile justice, and probation
    • Electronic case management system experience

    • Ability to have conflict resolution skills, and the ability to help staff engage non-voluntary clients
    • Possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills, builds and maintains positive productive relationships with the community, peers, colleagues, management teams to include operational managers, consultants, providers and suppliers
    • The ability to be confrontational in a professional manner at all times
    • Ability to use data, research, policy, and inter-personal skills to effectively and efficiently supervise a team of CPS Assessment and In-Home Staff
    • Ability to assess processes, provide best practice improvements, and facilitate change management
    • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
    • Problem-solving skills that are creative and innovative, but within compliance of State policy and practice
    • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities
    • Strong sense of accountability and demonstrates initiative.

    Hiring Range: 66,270 - 89,467 Commensurate with Experience

    Market Range: 66,270.00 - 112,663.00

    Emergency Service Worker Statement
