Administrative Assistant I .
Administrative Assistant I incumbents provide secretarial support to County managers by utilizing independent judgment requiring knowledge of a manager's policies, goals, and objectives. Typical assignments include scheduling appointments, conferences and meetings; screening correspondence, messages and inquiries; handling confidential and sensitive matters in person, over the phone and in writing; and maintaining the status of pending assignments and deadlines.
Please note : The current vacancies exist in the
Department of Behavioral Health and
Department of Public Health; however, the eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill positions in other County departments as vacancies occur.
As a condition of employment, candidates may be required to undergo and pass a background investigation. These investigations include employment/credit histories, verification of education, arrest/criminal records, drug/alcohol use, and personal conduct. This list is neither inclusive nor exclusive; other relevant areas may be investigated and verified. Positions in this classification are in Medical Group I - Light Physical Activity (Personnel Rule 8). This group includes positions which require only light physical effort and may include lifting of small, light objects and some bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching. Considerable walking or standing may be involved.

OPTION 1 : Experience : One (1) year of full-time, paid experience as an administrative assistant to the equivalent of a manager or administrator with the County of Fresno.
Substitution : Completion of thirty (30) semester units of office coursework that is acceptable within the United States' accredited college or university system.
OPTION 2 : Experience : One (1) year of full-time, paid experience as an Office Assistant II with the County of Fresno.
In addition to the options listed above, the following may also be required:
Other : Ability to type sixty-five (65) net words per minute may be required.
License : Possession of a valid class "C" driver's license, or equivalent, may be required.

SELECTION PROCESS :Depending upon the number of applicants meeting the minimum qualifications and filing requirements, applicants may be scheduled for one of the processes listed below:
- Written Examination -If required, the written examination will be offered in an online format. Please indicate on the supplemental questionnaire if you have the ability to complete an online examination.
- Certify Without Examination - In instances where the number of eligible candidates is less than or equal to the number of qualified applicants the Department is entitled to receive under Personnel Rule 4212, the competitive examination process will be waived and the names will be certified without an examination.
Successful candidates will be placed on an employment list, effective for a minimum of 3 months (may be extended up to 12 months), and certified in final rank order as vacancies occur.
