    The Position

    Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.

    Mental Health Counselor III's serve as a first line supervisor for professional clinicians on a case management team or treatment team OR independently oversee and implement the activities of a major program area such as a satellite clinic.

    The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) is recruiting for a Mental Health Counselor 3 for Intensive Family Services (IFS) which provides a continuum of home based clinical/therapeutic services to children and families involved with the child welfare system in rural Nevada. Intensive Family Services is designed to provide targeted, intensive services to children, adults and families who are involved in the child welfare system through trauma-informed practice. This position provides supervision, sometimes remotely, to Intensive Family Services (IFS) program Mental Health Counselors, including clinical supervision for interventions focusing on Brief Solution Oriented Therapy; Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT); Parent Management Training (PMT) and Trauma Informed Care as well as Clinical Case Management aspects. The Mental Health Counselor (MHC) III demonstrates an advanced understanding of the child welfare system, demonstrates the ability to implement of a variety of modality interventions to apply to multiple populations (i.e. families with children at risk of removal, children entering care, children in care, parents with children in care, placement resource, crisis intervention and stabilization, community/stakeholders and child welfare staff). This position will be located in Carson City.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field and three years of post-master's degree professional mental health counseling experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a master's degree and experience as described above. Special Requirements A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Licensure or certification as a Mental Health Counselor, Certified Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, or Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor issued by the appropriate licensing or certification authority is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.     Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
